Last year, my teammates and I qualified for Tokyo, but right now I\u2019m being forced to decide between being a breastfeeding mom or an Olympic athlete,\u201d Gaucher said in an Instagram video.\u00a0 \u201cI can\u2019t have them both. Tokyo has said \u2018no friends, no family, no exceptions.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CQe6gi8Lb5e\/?utm_source=ig_embed&#038;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"13\" readability=\"0\"><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Olympic games are less than one month away, and Gaucher seems to be desperate for a solution, asking the internet for help with her situation.<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI need the help of the internet,\u201d Gaucher said. \u201cIf anybody knows anything, let\u2019s see if we can make a difference. It\u2019s 2021, let\u2019s make working mom\u2019s normal.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to the International Olympic Committee, it is highly unlikely that <\/span><span>\u201cunaccredited people from overseas\u201d will be allowed at the games, and that appears to include breastfeeding infants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cNational Olympic Committees [NOCs] are responsible for the composition of their delegations at Games time, and the IOC is aware that a small number of them have been dealing with requests from athletes to bring their children on a case-by-case basis,\u201d the IOC said in a statement to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/sports\/olympics\/summer\/basketball\/olympics-canada-basketball-kim-gaucher-breastfeeding-1.6078717\"><span>CBC News<\/span><\/a><span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Gaucher\u2019s frustration with the rules appears to be justified as media members from around the world will be covering the Games, and Japanese locals will be allowed to attend the events.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cPlayers and media are all flying in from around the world, Japanese fans are going to be in attendance, the arenas are going to be half full, but I will not have access to my daughter?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Gaucher has looked at different options, including shipping milk back to Canada and stockpiling a milk supply, but neither appears to be a viable option at this time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe basketball team is going to be gone for 28 days,\u201d Gaucher said. \u201cPeople have told me to try to pump like mad. I don\u2019t have enough milk in me to train as a high level athlete, get my butt back in shape, and feed her currently, all while stocking a 28 day supply. We\u2019ve looked into shipping milk, we\u2019ve run into complications, we\u2019re still exploring that option. But it\u2019s not going to be easy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe\u2019ve tried appeals. Everyone says they\u2019re onboard, but nobody can do anything.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>An appeal was made by <\/span><span>the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and Canada Basketball in order to allow Gaucher\u2019s husband and daughter to attend the games.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIn any other Games scenario, we would have long ago found a solution,\u201d the COC <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/sports\/olympics\/summer\/basketball\/olympics-canada-basketball-kim-gaucher-breastfeeding-1.6078717\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> in a statement to CBC News.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe Tokyo Olympic Games are understandably being conducted with an unprecedented focus on health and safety. This includes Japanese borders being closed to overseas visitors, family and friends.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The committee said that there is a possibility that an exception could be made for Gaucher.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt is our understanding that no children stayed at Olympic Villages during previous Games,\u201d the statement read. \u201cNevertheless, there may be special circumstances, particularly with regard to infant children, and we will therefore continue to consult with the IOC and the [International Paralympic Committee] and solicit opinions from other relevant parties.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i>Joe Morgan is the Sports Reporter for The Daily Wire.
