Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) has joined a growing list of Republicans taking a public stance against critical race theory. Blackburn released a video on Twitter explaining to her followers what critical race theory aims to do.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in June, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackburn.senate.gov\/2021\/6\/sen-blackburn-introduces-resolution-condemning-critical-race-theory-in-k-12-schools\">she co-sponsored a resolution<\/a> with Florida Sen. Rick Scott (R) and Indiana Sen. Mike Braun (R), condemning the use of CRT in K-12 schools and teacher training. The senators noted, they along with 30 other of their GOP colleagues sent a letter to Joe Biden\u2019s education secretary making their demands known.<\/p>\n<p>They requested the withdrawal of the department\u2019s proposed priorities on American history and civics, which they said includes teaching divisive curriculum like CRT.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Critical race theory is wrong for the nation because it teaches our children to hate America and judge each other for our differences. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/I4naMQxm3z\">pic.twitter.com\/I4naMQxm3z<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Sen. Marsha Blackburn (@MarshaBlackburn) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MarshaBlackburn\/status\/1407724772973334528?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 23, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As Democrats in Congress continue to push for critical race theory in schools and job training, Sen. Blackburn and other Republicans have voiced support for school choice. However, many disagree with Blackburn and the GOP\u2019s view on CRT.<\/p>\n<p>The Benjamin L. Hooks Institute for Social Change hosted several academics as panelists this week who bash CRT opponents and argue CRT is \u201cinvaluable\u201d in helping to understand the functionality of race in the U.S. and worldwide.
