Val <span class=\"il\">Demings (D., Fla.)<\/span> committed a blatant ethics violation, according to a congressional watchdog.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"il\">Demings used her official Twitter account, which has more than 300,000 followers, to direct people to her far less popular campaign account. The <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepValDemings\/status\/1402655239149326343\">tweet<\/a>, which was pinned to the top of the congresswoman&#8217;s timeline, violated House rules banning the use of taxpayer-funded resources for campaign purposes, according to a complaint filed by the Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"im\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1490010\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Screen-Shot-2021-06-23-at-4.14.00-PM.png\" alt width=\"473\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Screen-Shot-2021-06-23-at-4.14.00-PM.png 473w, https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Screen-Shot-2021-06-23-at-4.14.00-PM-300x171.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 473px) 100vw, 473px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;<span class=\"il\">Demings<\/span> has committed a clear violation by using her official account to link to her campaign account,&#8221; FACT wrote in a <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FACT-Letter.pdf\">complaint<\/a> Tuesday to the Office of Congressional Ethics. &#8220;This rule enforces an important foundational principle: Members cannot use their official position or taxpayer-funded resources for political gain.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Demings gained national attention as floor manager during the second impeachment of former president Donald Trump. She launched her long-rumored Senate bid against incumbent senator Marco Rubio (R., Fla.) on June 9, just hours before sending the tweet flagged by FACT.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"il\">The pinned tweet was removed from the congresswoman&#8217;s timeline Wednesday after the <em>Washington Free Beacon<\/em> sent a request for comment to Demings&#8217;s office. The congresswoman<\/span>\u00a0did not respond to a request for comment on the complaint.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The watchdog group called on the ethics office to investigate what it called an &#8220;ongoing ethics violation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;The Office of Congressional Ethics is responsible for ensuring each representative fulfills the public trust inherent to the office and complies with the House&#8217;s ethical standards,&#8221; the complaint says. &#8220;Therefore, we urge the Board to immediately investigate and stop Representative Demings&#8217;s ongoing ethics violations.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Demings is considered a long-shot to unseat Rubio, who has held the seat since 2011.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Democrats Senate candidate Val Demings used taxpayer resources to boost campaign  Rep.
