Pramila Jayapal\u2019s bill would force Google to divest from Google Maps and YouTube, Facebook to divest from WhatsApp and Instagram, Microsoft to divest from LinkedIn, and Apple to divest from iMessage and FaceTime, the letter said.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A coalition of technology trade groups came out strongly against Democrats\u2019 pending Big Tech bills, arguing the legislation would harm consumers\u2019 options.<\/p>\n<p>The coalition of 13 groups including Americans for Prosperity, the Chamber of Progress and the Taxpayers Protection Alliance <a href=\"http:\/\/progresschamber.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/HJC-Letter_-Reject-Cicilline-Jayapal-Bills.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wrote a letter<\/a> to the House Judiciary Committee arguing that two of Democrats\u2019 five Big Tech bills would severely degrade popular services enjoyed by consumers. The bills, proposed by Democratic Reps. David Cicilline and Pramila Jayapal respectively, ultimately do not achieve the goal of promoting competition online, the letter said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt a time when voters are looking to Congress to address the country\u2019s most pressing challenges, it seems hard to believe that Congress is instead on the verge of banning Amazon Prime and Amazon Basics; banning the preinstallation of iMessage and FaceTime on iPhones; and banning Google from including Google Maps in its search results,\u201d the groups wrote in the letter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoth Rep. Cicilline\u2019s \u2018American Innovation and Choice Online Act\u2019 and Rep. Jayapal\u2019s \u2018Ending Platform Monopolies Act\u2019 would prevent Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Google, and Microsoft from offering integrated tech conveniences to consumers,\u201d the letter continued. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/21\/microsoft-conservative-censorship-antitrust-legislation-jim-jordan-judiciary-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>(RELATED: Microsoft Censors Conservatives, Should Be Subject To Antitrust Laws, Jim Jordan Says)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cicilline\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/cicilline.house.gov\/sites\/cicilline.house.gov\/files\/documents\/American%20Innovation%20and%20Choice%20Online%20Act%20-%20Bill%20Text.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bill<\/a> would prevent YouTube videos from showing up in Google search results, prohibit Alexa from being used to make Amazon purchases, ban Apple from preinstalling its iCloud service on its software and ban Instagram stories from Facebook, according to the coalition.<\/p>\n<p>Jayapal\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/3825\/text?r=34&#038;s=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bill<\/a>, meanwhile, would force Google to divest from Google Maps and YouTube, Facebook to divest from WhatsApp and Instagram, Microsoft to divest from LinkedIn, and Apple to divest from iMessage and FaceTime, the letter continued. (Win McNamee\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe believe that voters want Congress to fix things that are broken \u2014 not break or ban things that they feel are working well,\u201d the groups wrote. \u201cWe strongly encourage you to reject these proposals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Judiciary Committee Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/news\/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=4591\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">unveiled<\/a> their five antitrust bills earlier this month. The legislation, which has <a href=\"https:\/\/buck.house.gov\/media-center\/press-releases\/house-lawmakers-release-series-bills-aimed-taking-big-tech-s-monopoly\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bipartisan support<\/a>, could reportedly lead to prosecutors breaking up Big Tech companies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight now, unregulated tech monopolies have too much power over our economy,\u201d Cicilline said in a statement on June 11.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur agenda will level the playing field and ensure the wealthiest, most powerful tech monopolies play by the same rules as the rest of us,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<p>But Google criticized the legislation, confirming it would degrade their products in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/google-antitrust-bills-house-dae01e6a-2542-4903-bfc0-a570f024b5b6.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement<\/a> to Axios on Tuesday. The bills would negatively impact \u201chundreds of millions of Americans,\u201d Google Vice President of Government Affairs and Public Policy Mark Isakowitz said.<\/p>\n<p>The Judiciary Committee\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/10\/07\/oil-barons-railroad-tycoons-big-tech-amazon-apple-facebook-google-restructured-house-judiciary-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">released<\/a>\u00a0a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/uploadedfiles\/competition_in_digital_markets.pdf?utm_campaign=4493-519\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">report<\/a> in October highlighting the findings of its investigation into Big Tech antitrust issues.
