Billionaires paid only 3.4% of their total wealth.<\/p>\n<p>The most significant donors of the publication, Laurene Powell Jobs, David Filo, and Pierre Omidyar, were missing from the report on whether they do similar tax avoidance schemes, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/media\/propublica-donors-absent-from-bombshell-report-on-billionaire-tax-dodgers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Washington Free Beacon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike most news organizations\u2014maybe even yours\u2014we don\u2019t discuss the subjects of stories we haven\u2019t yet published,\u201d a spokesperson for ProPublica told the Daily Caller News Foundation in an email.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"9.0491803278689\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/propublica?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@propublica<\/a> Donors Absent From Bombshell Report on Billionaire Tax Dodgers<\/p>\n<p>Nonprofit pub has thousands of private tax docs on nation\u2019s wealthiest<\/p>\n<p>Via <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SaysSimonson?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@SaysSimonson<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/SHN2lHDUS7\">https:\/\/t.co\/SHN2lHDUS7<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Washington Free Beacon (@FreeBeacon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FreeBeacon\/status\/1407086585053601800?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 21, 2021<\/a> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Filo\u2019s non-profit organization, The Yellow Chair Foundation, donated $1.8 million in 2019, Jobs\u2019s Emerson Collective gave $4.6 million in 2018, and Democracy Fund, founded by Omidyar, gave $3 million in 2017, according to the Washington Free Beacon.<\/p>\n<p>ProPublica received tens of millions from individual billionaires, the family charities of billionaires, or multibillion-dollar corporations over three years, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/propublica\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Influence Watch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>ProPublica <a href=\"https:\/\/projects.propublica.org\/nonprofits\/organizations\/943380194\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">covered<\/a> Filo in another project unrelated to the IRS leak. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/09\/twitter-inaction-propublica-illegal-tax-leaks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Twitter Takes No Action Against ProPublica Story On \u2018Illegal\u2019 Tax Leaks Despite Censoring Hunter Biden Coverage)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would note that our first story contained information about George Soros, who is similarly situated, but about whom you didn\u2019t ask,\u201d ProPublica president Richard Tofel said to the Washington Free Beacon when questioned about excluding their donors in the report.<\/p>\n<p>Soros is not a significant funder of ProPublica despite Tofel referencing him, and the report alleges he paid no federal income tax three years in a row, according to the Washington Free Beacon.<\/p>\n<p>Open Society Foundations, an organization supported by Soros, said on its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opensocietyfoundations.org\/grants\/past?filter_keyword=ProPublica&#038;grant_id=OR2016-27464\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">site<\/a> that it gave $500,000 in 2016 to ProPublica.<\/p>\n<p>High-profile Republican senators <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/14\/republicans-justice-department-tax-disclosures-irs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">called on<\/a> the Justice Department and FBI to investigate the report by ProPublica. \u201cTaxpayers have the right to expect that any information they provide to the IRS will not be disclosed unless authorized by the taxpayer or by law,\u201d the senators wrote in a June 14 letter.<\/p>\n<p>A division of the IRS in 2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2013\/05\/14\/irs-sent-confidential-info-on-conservatives-to-liberal-nonprofit-propublica\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sent<\/a> confidential information on 31 conservative groups to ProPublica,<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
