Bonta.<\/p>\n<p>This leaves our assault weapons laws in effect while appellate proceedings continue.<\/p>\n<p>We won\u2019t stop defending these life-saving laws.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/L8F8zpLuhv\">https:\/\/t.co\/L8F8zpLuhv<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/udtszNfOis\">pic.twitter.com\/udtszNfOis<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Rob Bonta (@AGRobBonta) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AGRobBonta\/status\/1407110460852248576?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 21, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Benitez <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/05\/california-assault-weapons-ban-overturned\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ruled<\/a> June 4th the state\u2019s ban on so-called assault weapons infringes on the Second Amendment, noting other states and the Supreme Court permit the very same weapons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder no level of heightened scrutiny can the law survive,\u201d Benitez ruled, comparing \u201cthe popular AR-15 rifle\u201d to a \u201cSwiss Army knife.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne is to be forgiven if one is persuaded by news media and others that the nation is awash with murderous AR-15 assault rifles. The facts, however, do not support this hyperbole, and facts matter,\u201d he ruled, noting Californians are more likely to die in a knife attack than by a rifle, citing FBI statistics.<\/p>\n<p>Bonta <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/10\/california-appeals-ruling-overturning-assault-weapons-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">appealed<\/a> the ruling, asking the 9th Circuit to stay Benitez\u2019s ruling.
