Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell were caught up in a DOJ leak investigation under the Trump administration in 2018, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/06\/20\/politics\/justice-department-subpoenas-congressional-democrats-trump\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">they were not the specific targets<\/a> of the subpoena that uncovered some of their information, CNN reported Monday. The DOJ was instead investigating a high-level staffer working on the House Intelligence Committee as a potential leak. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2019\/01\/22\/trump-jr-adam-schiff-leak-testimony-2\/\">(RELATED:\u00a0Trump Jr. Says There\u2019s a \u201899.9% Chance\u2019 Rep. Adam Schiff Leaked His Intel Committee Testimony)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The DOJ subpoenaed Apple in an attempt to identify people the staffer was connected to. Schiff and Swalwell were incidentally included in the list of names Apple provided to comply with the subpoena, in addition to former Trump White House Counsel Don McGahn, according to CNN.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6591677\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" readability=\"39\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6591677\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6591677\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/swalwell-schiff-1-e1553464170865.jpg\" alt=\"(Photo by Chip Somodevilla\/Getty Images)\"  style=\"display:none\"><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-6591677\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) (L) and committee member Rep. (Photo by Chip Somodevilla\/Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Attorney General Merrick Garland has ordered an investigation into the apparent attempt from Trump to gather records from his political opponents and perceived enemies, including those in the media.<\/p>\n<p>Four New York Times reporters and one CNN reporter <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/14\/john-demers-national-security-official-doj-resigning-seizures-gag-orders-democrats-press\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">also had their emails subpoenaed<\/a> in connection with the leak investigation. The DOJ also subpoenaed the phone records for one Washington Post reporter.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s DOJ also placed gag orders on Apple and the journalists, preventing Apple from warning the congressmen that their data had been shared and the journalists from publishing on the matter.<\/p>\n<p>President Joe Biden\u2019s DOJ has also reportedly employed gag orders on journalists in similar investigations, a practice Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/arts-and-entertainment-government-and-politics-27a0ab87662217be1989a2d5a7465610\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">condemned<\/a> in May. The DOJ has since announced it will not enforce the gag orders on journalists who were \u201cdoing their jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbsolutely, positively, it\u2019s wrong.
