Jim Jordan accused Microsoft of censoring conservative voices and said it cannot be exempt from future antitrust legislation in a letter to the company\u2019s president.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan, the top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, cited various instances of <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/03\/amazon-microsoft-starbucks-black-boardroom-initiative\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Microsoft<\/a> censoring conservative speech on its platforms including LinkedIn, in the <a href=\"https:\/\/republicans-judiciary.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/JDJ-to-Microsoft-6.21.2020.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">letter<\/a> addressed to Microsoft President Brad Smith and sent Monday morning. Jordan also noted that the company has acquired more than 200 companies over the last 30 years and has reached an estimated value of nearly $2 trillion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBig Tech, including Microsoft, Inc., is out to get conservatives,\u201d Jordan wrote in the letter. \u201cDespite Microsoft\u2019s size and market dominance, House Democrats curiously did not significantly examine Microsoft\u2019s conduct during their investigation of competition in digital markets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDemocrats also seem to have excluded Microsoft from scrutiny in their large package of bills to radically rewrite American antitrust law,\u201d he continued. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/03\/microsoft-house-judiciary-committee-jim-jordan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: House Judiciary GOP Slams Microsoft\u2019s \u2018Woke Agenda,\u2019 Welcome Hearing With CEO)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jordan referenced recent incidents of the employment social media platform LinkedIn, which Microsoft <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2016\/06\/13\/microsoft-to-buy-linkedin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">purchased<\/a> in 2016, censoring certain speech. LinkedIn has reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/newbostonpost.com\/2018\/01\/14\/linkedin-the-latest-platform-to-censor-conservatives-heres-proof\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">censored<\/a> conservative voices on <a href=\"https:\/\/newbostonpost.com\/2018\/01\/14\/linkedin-the-latest-platform-to-censor-conservatives-heres-proof\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">multiple<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/01\/18\/linkedin-has-discriminated-against-me-because-of-my-political-beliefs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">occasions<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/volokh\/2021\/04\/19\/what-i-learned-when-linkedin-suppressed-my-post\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">prohibited<\/a> users from sharing stories about Hunter Biden\u2019s laptop in October.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Microsoft search engine Bing <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/04\/microsoft-tiananmen-square-china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">blocked<\/a> images of \u201ctank man,\u201d the iconic protester who stood in front of a Chinese tank during the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests, the Daily Caller News Foundation reported. (Drew Angerer\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Jordan noted that Microsoft has changed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/servicesagreement\/upcoming.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">service agreement<\/a> of its word processor software to prevent users from \u201ccommunicating hate speech\u201d and engaging in \u201charmful activity,\u201d which he said are vaguely defined.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis censorship creates the potential for Microsoft to prevent users from generating certain content on Microsoft Word altogether,\u201d Jordan wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan criticized Democrats for leaving Microsoft off the list of companies that their upcoming antitrust legislation would target. In addition to its market size and long list of acquisitions, Microsoft\u2019s office suite has captured 87.5% of the market, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic Rep. David Cicilline, who leads the Judiciary Committee\u2019s antitrust subcommittee, was noncommittal when asked if Microsoft would be affected by the upcoming bills, Axios <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/microsoft-new-antitrust-proposals-53b9603f-a2f9-4dbd-a08b-126a191c5eec.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a> Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know whether Microsoft would meet the test that is set forth in these five bills,\u201d Cicilline told Axios.<\/p>\n<p>Judiciary Committee Democrats are poised to soon unveil up to five pieces of antitrust legislation, Politico <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/06\/09\/house-democrats-announce-tech-bills-492703\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a> earlier this month.
