While there is a species of frog in which males have hair-like structures on their sides and legs, it does not resemble the creature in the image, according to an expert.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/Natureandanimallovers\/permalink\/4218162101574010\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">image<\/a> shows what appears to be a brown, hair-covered frog sitting on a lily pad. The viral Facebook post\u2019s caption reads in part, \u201cTrichobatrachus Robustus\u2026.The Hairy Frog\u2026 Found in The Cameroons.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the <em>Trichobatrachus robustus<\/em>, sometimes called the \u201chairy frog,\u201d is a <a href=\"https:\/\/amphibiaweb.org\/species\/1506\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">real<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/animaldiversity.org\/accounts\/Trichobatrachus_robustus\/classification\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">species<\/a> of frog, it does not closely resemble the creature in the Facebook post. A description of the species found on <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.scientificamerican.com\/tetrapod-zoology\/squeakers-frogs-with-claws-frogs-with-hair\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Scientific American<\/a> explains the \u201chair\u201d on such frogs is not actually hair, but rather \u201cfrills of hair-like papillae\u201d that grow along the sides and thighs of males during breeding season. Photos of the <em>Trichobatrachus robustus<\/em>, which is <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.scientificamerican.com\/tetrapod-zoology\/squeakers-frogs-with-claws-frogs-with-hair\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">native<\/a> to western Africa, can be found on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gettyimages.com\/search\/2\/image?family=creative&#038;phrase=trichobatrachus+robustushttps:\/\/www.gettyimages.com\/search\/2\/image?family=creative&#038;phrase=trichobatrachus+robustus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Getty Images<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat pic is fake \u2013 there is such a species but it doesn\u2019t look like that,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/australian.museum\/get-involved\/staff-profiles\/jodi-rowley\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dr. Jodi Rowley<\/a>, the curator of amphibian and reptile conservation biology at the Australian Museum Research Institute, said in an email to Check Your Fact.<\/p>\n<p>The logo for the website Worth1000.com is visible in the image of the hair-covered frog being shared online. A reverse image search revealed it was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.designcrowd.com\/community\/contest.aspx?id=1669703\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">originally shared<\/a> as part of an art competition hosted by the website, which is now DesignCrowd.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMake it hairy \u2013 either add hair onto something or recreate an object out of hair,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.designcrowd.com\/community\/contest.aspx?id=1669703\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reads<\/a> the competition\u2019s instructions in part. \u201cAnything. Living or animate.
