A spokesperson for Hawaii\u2019s Department of Transportation said the claim is inaccurate.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Check Fact:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The June 16 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/permalink.php?story_fbid=1651072161756512&#038;id=100005612326117\">Facebook post<\/a> claims: \u201cstarting in 2023 this law will go into effect for anyone wanting to rent a car They will have to take a driver\u2019s test at the airport before being able to rent a car.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There is no evidence that Hawaii is planning to stop recognizing out-of-state driver\u2019s licenses. Check Your Fact searched Hawaii\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/portal.ehawaii.gov\/page\/search\/?q=out-of-state+driver&#038;page=1&#038;sort=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">state website<\/a>\u00a0but found no announcement of such a rule being implemented. A search of Hawaiian Governor David Ige\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/governor.hawaii.gov\/?s=out+of+state+drivers\">website<\/a> likewise turned up no mention of Hawaii not recognizing other states\u2019 licenses. Nor did Ige post such an announcement on his verified <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=out-of-state%20driver%27s%20license%20(from%3AGovHawaii)&#038;src=typed_query\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twitter<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/page\/387637784744953\/search\/?q=driver%27s%20license\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Facebook<\/a> accounts.<\/p>\n<p>Check Your Fact reviewed laws published on Hawaii\u2019s state legislature\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capitol.hawaii.gov\/Search\/search?IW_INDEX=2021&#038;IW_FIELD_WEB_STYLE=out-of-state%20driver%27s%20license\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a>, but found no law banning out-of-state drivers in 2023.
