And so, I found myself wondering if reading these books to my daughter would in a way be a lie. Was it fair to tell her stories of healthy ecosystems and the steady seasons to which we\u2019ve become accustomed?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Apparently former President Obama had no such qualms; in late March 2016, he and first lady Michelle Obama imitated monsters as they read \u201cWhere The Wild Things Are\u201d during the White House Easter Egg Roll.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince the oldest of the books, \u2018Babar,\u2019 was published in 1931, Africa\u2019s elephant population had dwindled from 10 million to roughly 400,000. Since \u2018Where the Wild Things Are\u2019 was published in 1963, the world had lost an estimated two-thirds of its wildlife,\u201d Bogard wrote, possibly referencing the environmentalist group World Wildlife Fund\u2019s (WWF) widely-quoted\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/worldwildlife.org\/livingplanetreport2020\">Living Planet Report 2020<\/a>, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globenewswire.com\/news-release\/2020\/09\/09\/2091362\/0\/en\/68-Average-Decline-in-Species-Population-Sizes-Since-1970-Says-New-WWF-Report.html\">claimed<\/a> that 68% of wildlife in the world had been destroyed between 1970 and 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Of WWF, Buzzfeed <a href=\"https:\/\/redd-monitor.org\/2019\/03\/13\/exposed-by-buzzfeed-news-wwfs-lies-about-indigenous-people-being-supportive-of-its-proposed-messok-dja-national-park-in-the-republic-of-congo\/\">reported<\/a> in March 2019, \u201cIn a May 2018 report, WWF told the EU (European Union) that indigenous people were in support of the proposed national park. But a recent\u00a0Buzzfeed News investigation\u00a0reveals that WWF was fully aware of indigenous Baka people\u2019s opposition to the park, and their fear of repression by eco-guards, as documented in a July 2017 internal WWF report.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As far back as 2009, Tom DeWeese <a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/columnists\/tomdeweese\/2009\/03\/11\/the-world-wildlife-funds-polar-bear-lies-n1125794\">noted<\/a> a WWF ad that claimed that polar bears were becoming endangered. He wrote, \u201cNot one word of the ad is true. Polar bears are not endangered. There is no indication of any reduction of their populations. In fact, they are actually being hunted by locals who have to live with them in an effort to keep their populations down. Of 13 Polar Bear populations, 11 are thriving and growing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Global Warming Policy Foundation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegwpf.org\/as-polar-bear-numbers-increase-gwpf-calls-for-re-assessment-of-endangered-species-status\/\">opined<\/a> in 2017, \u201cIn 2005, the official global polar bear estimate was about 22,500.\u00a0Since 2005, however, the estimated global polar bear population has risen by more than 30% to about 30,000 bears, far and away the highest estimate in more than 50 years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bogard lamented, \u201cI had chosen to become a father knowing well the dire predictions, the destruction that leaves me quiet.
