Biden\u2019s National Security Council had ordered officials to put together the aid earlier this year when Russia was amassing troops on its border with Ukraine, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/06\/18\/white-house-ukraine-military-lethal-weapons-495169\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Politico reported<\/a>.\u00a0 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/02\/biden-ukraine-russia-zelensky-hunter-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Biden To Hold First Call With Ukrainian President As Russia\u2019s Military Postures)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/16\/joe-biden-vladimir-putin-summit-geneva-summary-constructive-meeting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">met with Putin<\/a> Wednesday in Geneva, Switzerland, and while he confirmed they had discussed Ukraine, he did not announce he had frozen the aid at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ny1.com\/nyc\/all-boroughs\/politics\/2021\/06\/07\/biden-invites-ukrainian-president-volodymyr-zelensky-to-white-house-this-summer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">invited<\/a> Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenksy to the White House later this summer. While a date has not been announced, the pair will likely discuss the future of military aid packages.<\/p>\n<p>The aid freeze came in reaction to an announcement from Russia that it would deescalate its buildup of troops on the Ukrainian border, officials told Politico. Biden had sought to push off talks with Zelensky for as long as possible, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/04\/02\/joe-biden-ukrainian-president-call-478917\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according to Politico<\/a>, but he held his first call with the leader in late spring.<\/p>\n<p>Ukraine has been a sore topic for Biden since his son, Hunter Biden,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/12\/15\/hunter-biden-investigation-summary-china-burisma-tax\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">faced accusations<\/a>\u00a0of using his family name to gain business dealings in the country.
