Pat Toomey requested the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau\u2019s (CFPB) watchdog to review allegations the agency has illegally forced senior officials out.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>\u201cThe political leadership of the [CFPB] under the Biden Administration has been taking unusual and possibly unlawful actions to push out top-level career civil servants at the CFPB in order to fill those civil service positions with hand-picked loyalists,\u201d Toomey wrote in a letter to Inspector General Mark Bialek on Thursday.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Since Biden took office in January, senior CFPB officials have been offered generous incentives including early retirement in an effort to make way for individuals more ideologically aligned with the current administration, GovExec reported Monday.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Republican Sen. Pat Toomey requested the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau\u2019s watchdog to review allegations the agency has illegally forced senior officials out.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Pat Toomey, the Senate Banking Committee\u2019s top Republican, asked Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Inspector General Mark Bialek to review the allegations and potentially open a formal investigation into the matter in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.banking.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/letter_to_cfpb_oig.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">letter<\/a> sent Thursday afternoon. Toomey referenced a recent Government Executive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.govexec.com\/management\/2021\/06\/biden-employs-aggressive-strategy-sideline-top-career-officials-consumer-protection-bureau\/174711\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">report<\/a>, which laid out how President Joe Biden\u2019s administration is using dubious means to force senior CFPB officials to retire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe political leadership of the [CFPB] under the Biden Administration has been taking unusual and possibly unlawful actions to push out top-level career civil servants at the CFPB in order to fill those civil service positions with hand-picked loyalists,\u201d Toomey wrote to Bialek. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2018\/02\/07\/cfpb-headquarters-tour\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: An Exclusive Peek Into Elizabeth Warren\u2019s Luxurious CFPB Headquarters)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI request that your office promptly review the allegations,\u201d the letter continued. \u201cIf found credible, I ask that you open an investigation into whether any CFPB officials\u2014or other officials in the federal government\u2014violated any employment or other laws in connection with the matter described above.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Toomey also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.banking.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/letter_to_cfpb.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sent<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.banking.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/letter_to_chopra.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">letters<\/a> to Acting CFPB Director Dave Uejio and Biden\u2019s nominee to lead the agency, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/01\/18\/biden-taps-rohit-chopra-lead-consumer-financial-protection-bureau\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rohit Chopra<\/a>, who currently sits on the Federal Trade Commission, asking for information about the alleged actions occurring at the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2018\/01\/07\/exclusive-a-new-cfpb-scandal-cost-overruns-for-its-new-lux-headquarters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">top regulatory agency<\/a>. The effort has reportedly focused on pushing out a handful of the highest-ranked non-political staffers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was very clear that there was no respect for senior executives that worked at the agency,\u201d an unnamed official who currently works at the CFPB told GovExec. \u201cThe way they\u2019re treating career executives is terrible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The CFPB even opened an investigation into one top official\u2019s \u201chiring actions\u201d forcing them to go on paid administrative leave while the probe is conducted, according to GovExec. Multiple sources with knowledge of the investigation characterized it as \u201cfrivolous\u201d and an attempt to create a vacancy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s accurate to say there has been a push to get rid of top career people there,\u201d a former CFPB official who left the agency after Biden was sworn in told GovExec. \u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s a coincidence.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2017\/11\/25\/trump-slams-consumer-financial-protection-bureau-as-total-disaster\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Trump Slams Consumer Financial Protection Bureau As \u2018Total Disaster\u2019)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The CFPB notably didn\u2019t deny the allegations when asked, according to GovExec.
