Raphael Warnock (D., Ga.) sent a fundraising email asking recipients to identify their support for &#8220;repealing strict and burdensome voter ID laws&#8221; just hours after he claimed he has &#8220;never been opposed to voter ID.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Warnock-email.png\">email<\/a>, which Warnock&#8217;s campaign sent Thursday night, contains a survey for &#8220;top supporters&#8221; to give their &#8220;critical insights&#8221; on GOP-led &#8220;voter suppression.&#8221; The survey includes a question asking respondents to note their top priorities for &#8220;voting rights reforms&#8221; as Democrats look to &#8220;take action at the federal level.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span>&#8220;Repealing strict and burdensome voter ID laws,&#8221; read one of the responses to the question.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1487892\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Warnock-survey.png\" alt width=\"2008\" height=\"1436\" srcset=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Warnock-survey.png 2008w, https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Warnock-survey-300x215.png 300w, https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Warnock-survey-1024x732.png 1024w, https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Warnock-survey-768x549.png 768w, https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Warnock-survey-538x385.png 538w, https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Warnock-survey-1536x1098.png 1536w, https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Warnock-survey-1400x1001.png 1400w, https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Warnock-survey-736x526.png 736w, https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Warnock-survey-687x491.png 687w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2008px) 100vw, 2008px\"  style=\"display:none\"><\/p>\n<p>Just hours earlier, NBC News published a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/elections\/stacey-abrams-backs-manchin-s-compromise-voting-legislation-n1271134\">report<\/a> in which Warnock claimed he has &#8220;never been opposed to voter ID&#8221; and &#8220;in fact&#8221; does not &#8220;know anybody who is.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span>Warnock, however, has attacked voter ID laws for years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In 2018, he penned an <\/span><i><span>Atlanta Journal-Constitution<\/span><\/i> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajc.com\/news\/opinion\/opinion-attacks-voting-hit-soul-our-democracy\/j1ozskt3WIAPpgaFfmVcZL\/\"><span>opinion piece<\/span><\/a><span> invoking Martin Luther King Jr. to chastise Georgia&#8217;s &#8220;unnecessary and discriminatory voter ID laws.&#8221; Two years earlier, Warnock gave a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/programarchive.chq.org\/ci\/sessions\/9655\/view\"><span>lecture<\/span><\/a><span> lamenting &#8220;all of these voter suppression laws saying we&#8217;ve got to have voter ID laws because if we don&#8217;t they might vote twice,&#8221; adding, &#8220;Are you kidding?&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>During a 2015 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/livestream.com\/historicebenezerbaptistchurch\/events\/3870165\/videos\/79514763\"><span>sermon<\/span><\/a><span>, Warnock said &#8220;dealing with these voter ID laws \u2026 is not about voter verification, this is about voter suppression.&#8221; And in 2012, he <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.augustachronicle.com\/article\/20120116\/NEWS\/301169942\"><span>labeled<\/span><\/a><span> voter ID laws &#8220;unnecessary and unjustifiable,&#8221; according to the <em>Augusta Chronicle<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Warnock&#8217;s campaign did not return a request for comment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Georgia Democrat&#8217;s comments to NBC News came after Sen. Joe Manchin (D., W.Va.) offered a compromise on Democrat-backed federal voting legislation that\u2014unlike the original proposal\u2014includes a voter ID component. According to Manchin, his party&#8217;s original bill consists of &#8220;partisan policymaking&#8221; that &#8220;won&#8217;t instill confidence in our democracy\u2014it will destroy it.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>&#8220;Unfortunately, we are now witnessing that the fundamental right to vote has itself become overtly politicized,&#8221; Manchin wrote in the <\/span><i><span>Charleston Gazette-Mail<\/span><\/i><span>. &#8220;Today&#8217;s debate about how to best protect our right to vote and to hold elections, however, is not about finding common ground, but seeking partisan advantage.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sen.
