Sheldon Whitehouse is taking credit for the Supreme Court\u2019s rejection of an Affordable Care Act lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>Whitehouse was one of the loudest Senate Democrats to claim that Justice Amy Coney Barrett\u2019s confirmation to the Supreme Court would mean the end of Obamacare. He <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/09\/22\/sheldon-whitehouse-senate-procedure-supreme-court-nominee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">admitted<\/a> at the time of her confirmation that there was nothing that Democrats could do to stop her appointment, but that there would be \u201cconsequences\u201d for Republicans doing so.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis Supreme Court nominee has signaled in the judicial equivalent of all caps, that she believes the Affordable Care Act must go, and that the precedent protecting the ACA [Affordable Care Act] doesn\u2019t matter,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/10\/12\/democrats-obamacare-focal-point-amy-coney-barrett-hearing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> at one point during the confirmation hearings. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/10\/22\/affordable-care-act-here-to-stay-regardless-supreme-court-vacancy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: The Affordable Care Act Is Likely Here To Stay Even If Amy Coney Barrett Fills Supreme Court Vacancy, Experts Say)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Whitehouse also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/sheldon-whitehouse-amy-coney-barrett-confirmation-hearing-obamacare\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">described<\/a> Barrett as a \u201cjudicial torpedo\u201d driven by \u201cbig donors\u201d and \u201caimed at [his constituents\u2019] essential protections.<\/p>\n<p>At one point, he even <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/10\/13\/whitehouse-marker-poster-conservative-dark-powers-supreme-court-amy-coney-barrett\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">brandished<\/a> a marker and poster to demonstrate the way that conservative groups like the Federalist Society \u201cpull strings and push sticks and cause the puppet theater to react.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Barrett was one of the seven justices to <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/17\/supreme-court-obamacare-obama-republican-healthcare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">rule<\/a> that a challenge to the law\u2019s individual mandate could not go forward because the plaintiffs lacked standing. With Obamacare upheld, Whitehouse is claiming vindication.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we hadn\u2019t done that, maybe they would have\u201d overturned Obamacare, Whitehouse told CNN\u2019s Manu Raju.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"10.209944751381\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\u201cIf we hadn\u2019t done that, maybe they would have\u201d killed the law, Whitehouse said. \u201cIt may be (saved) because we did so many warnings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Manu Raju (@mkraju) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mkraju\/status\/1405574911041708042?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 17, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He said he does not regret his comments \u201cfor a minute.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Whitehouse frequently spreads unsupported theories about the influence of \u201cdark money\u201d on the Supreme Court. \u201c<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Dark money\u201d refers to undisclosed donations or financial contributions made to a particular person or entity, such as a non-profit, with the intent of influencing political outcomes, according to <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/dark-money\/basics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Open Secrets<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>He is currently <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/10\/sheldon-whitehouse-dark-money-hearing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">promoting<\/a> a bill, with the help of liberal groups that receive dark money, that would require groups that file amicus briefs with the Supreme Court to reveal their donors. Whitehouse is an <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/07\/17\/senator-sheldon-whitehouse-speaks-dark-money-courts-event-american-constitution-society\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ally<\/a> of the American Constitution Society, an organization that receives dark money.<\/p>\n<p>Whitehouse <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/24\/democrats-threaten-court-packing-mississippi-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">claimed<\/a> that \u201cright-wing billionaire money has influenced the makeup of the court and may even be pulling strings at the court,\u201d after the Court agreed to hear a case about a Mississippi law that outlaws abortion after 15 weeks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Democratic Rhode Island Sen.
