This week, Back the Blue supporters spoke out during a Champaign City Council meeting where public comments lasted for several hours.<\/p>\n<p>During the discussions, residents said gun violence was on the rise due to an increase in degrading law enforcement and argued this has caused people to live in fear. Some of the criticism comes in response to a Champaign Police Department officer who was fatally shot in May.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Chief of Police Anthony Cobb Issues Statement on Fallen Officer:<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ZfNcrcuUBZ\">https:\/\/t.co\/ZfNcrcuUBZ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Champaign PD (@ChampaignPD) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChampaignPD\/status\/1395031032538206209?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 19, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Residents also expressed concerns about the department being defunded. Back the Blue participant Matt Stuckey slammed the city council members who have asked for defunding of the police.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow they come out after the murder of Officer Chris Oberheim.
