James, president of The Heritage Foundation, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heritage.org\/press\/heritage-foundation-president-applauds-supreme-courts-ruling-protect-religious-liberty\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wrote<\/a> that the court\u2019s decision rejects what she describes as another example of government overreach.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCatholic Social Services has demonstrated for more than a century that religious beliefs inspire and motivate service to vulnerable children and foster parents. Philadelphia contracts with dozens of foster care agencies and no one complained about being rejected by this agency. The city singled out Catholic Social Services to purge any organization that held a traditional view of marriage,\u201d James wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Supreme Court\u2019s unanimous ruling today says that this hostility violated First Amendment freedoms,\u201d James wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Toni Simms-Busch Statement reacts to SCOTUS&#039; decision in Fulton v. They also said that Catholic agencies had placed the vulnerable kids in \u201cloving, forever homes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll Americans benefit from the Supreme Court\u2019s decision to uphold our first amendment freedoms, but most especially the vulnerable children of Philadelphia who directly benefit from the life-changing work of Catholic Social Services,\u201d the statement said. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/28\/catholic-vote-sba-list-biden-extremism-abortion-100-days\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: Catholic, Pro-Life Campaigns Highlight \u2018Unprecedented Abortion Extremism\u2019 Of Biden\u2019s First 100 Days)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut those (Catholic) agencies have become the latest victim of woke culture as activists seek to push them out of the adoption and foster care space because of their religious values. Anderson (@RyanTAnd) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RyanTAnd\/status\/1405531705851580420?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 17, 2021<\/a> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Autumn Leva, vice president for Strategy at Family Policy Alliance, a conservative Christian organization, released a statement that religious foster and adoption agencies should have the freedom to help children in their community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s decision is a significant win for religious freedom\u2014and especially for children,\u201d Leva wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Leva also referenced the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/02\/25\/the-equality-act-lgbtq-transgender-democrats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Equality Act<\/a>, stating that it redefines \u201csex\u201d to include a person\u2019s self-declared gender identity throughout federal civil rights law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy doing that, the Act could be used to force foster and adoption agencies into similar dilemmas to Catholic Social Services \u2013 something that the entire Supreme Court rejected today. The Equality Act would threaten religious freedom and the wellbeing of children, and must be rejected,\u201d Leva said.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Sharen Ford, director of foster care and adoption at Focus on the Family, a fundamentalist Christian organization, said she was \u201crelieved\u201d and \u201chopeful\u201d after seeing the results of this case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe rejoice with the children who will be served as a result of this decision and pray families will partner with these organizations to serve as a source of hope for those most in need,\u201d Ford said.<\/p>\n<p>Liberal organizations have condemned the ruling, saying that the Catholic foster-care agency should include same-sex couples.<\/p>\n<p>Adam Peck, a senior media coordinator at the Center For American Progress, a liberal public policy research organization, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanprogress.org\/press\/statement\/2021\/06\/17\/500774\/statement-caps-sharita-gruberg-responds-fulton-v-city-philadelphia-decision-supreme-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> the group was \u201cdisappointed\u201d by the outcome and didn\u2019t believe the facts of the case pointed to religious discrimination. He also encouraged people to push their politicians to pass the Equality Act.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll Americans who care about a country free from discrimination must now shift their attention back to Congress,\u201d Peck said.<\/p>\n<p>Alison Gill, vice president for Legal and Policy at American Atheists, a non-profit organization, released a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atheists.org\/2021\/06\/fulton-supreme-court-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement<\/a> saying that the Catholic Social Services looked \u201cradical.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey wanted to require the city to contract with them, but only on their terms \u2014 and sadly, they succeeded,\u201d said Gill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Supreme Court has strengthened the resolve of those seeking the special right to discriminate because of their religious beliefs,\u201d said Gill.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
