On Tuesday, Republican Greg Abbott signed <a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/TX\/text\/HB3979\/id\/2339637\">House Bill 3979<\/a> and was met with immense support.<\/p>\n<p>While the law does not mention critical race theory by name, it would ban teachers and schools in Texas from requiring students to learn about concepts involved in the controversial topic. Rep. Steve Toth (R), the bill\u2019s author, said that we don\u2019t need to \u201cburden our kids with guilt for racial crimes they had nothing to do with.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Abbott said the bill was a strong move, but that more must be done. The law will go into effect in September. This comes in addition to other states voicing their opposition while passing similar legislation.<\/p>\n<p>Florida\u2019s governor spoke at a Board of Education meeting in June, during which he criticized critical race theory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think its really important when we\u2019re doing history, when we\u2019re doing things like civics, that it is grounded in actual fact,\u201d stated Republican Ron DeSantis. \u201cAnd I think we\u2019ve got to have an education system that is preferring fact over narrative.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Florida\u2019s State Board of Education made the ban to remove critical race theory after DeSantis said that children were being indoctrinated with \u201cideology.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThe basis for Critical Race Theory is that the structure is rooted in racism, white supremacy, and white privilege, \u2026 our history shows that is not true. We have made tremendous progress toward that more perfect union \u2026\u201d \u2013 Quisha King, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Moms4Liberty?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Moms4Liberty<\/a>  <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/7t7i17v6EU\">https:\/\/t.co\/7t7i17v6EU<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ron DeSantis (@GovRonDeSantis) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovRonDeSantis\/status\/1404960302727319552?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 16, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has also spoken against the academic movement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmerican students deserve a rock-solid civics education grounded in actual facts, not divisive propaganda that tells them they\u2019re little more than a product of their racial background,\u201d stated the Republican senator.<\/p>\n<p>McConnell also added, the Department of Education\u2019s curriculum reflects \u201cwoke sensibilities\u201d of the theory.
