It is also one of the largest human trafficking ventures in the world. And it\u00a0is likely the largest non-regulatory repository of child pornography in North America\u00a0and well beyond,\u201d the lawsuit <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1b9nvgyid-lt0eTmHRIo3L1DVzfX3Bf7S\/view\">asserts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit emphasizes that the case against MindGeek is not about porn, but child exploitation, rape, and coercion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a case about rape, not pornography,\u201d it reads. \u201cIt is a case about the rape and sexual exploitation of children. It is a case about the rape and sexual exploitation of men and women. And it is a case about each of these defendants\u00a0knowingly and intentionally electing to capitalize and profit from the horrendous\u00a0exploitation and abuse of tens of thousands of other human beings so they could\u00a0make more than the enormous sums of money they would have otherwise made\u00a0anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/pornhub-lawsuit-nonconsensual-videos-child-abuse-imagery\/?ftag=CNM-00-10aab7e&#038;linkId=121610205\">noted<\/a>\u00a0by CBS News,\u00a0MindGeek owns and operates more than 100 pornographic websites, including highly-trafficked sites like Pornhub, RedTube, YouPorn, and Xtube.\u00a0\u201cMindGeek also owns porn production companies that create content, but for years, a majority of the content on Pornhub was uploaded by unverified users. MindGeek operates some paid-subscription sites, but Pornhub is free for anyone to access and earns money through advertising revenue and optional, premium subscriptions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe online porn industry has essentially been the Red Light District of commerce,\u201d said Michael Bowe, who\u2019s representing the dozens of women fighting back against MindGeek. \u201cThis new industry of online porn, for the last 10 years, has been allowed by law enforcement, government entities, to operate by a different set of rules. Basically, no rules or oversight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The civil case constructed by Bowe is based on racketeering laws, which CBS notes are typically used to go after mobsters and drug gangs.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the victims \u2014 a group that includes women who were as young as 15 years old in videos posted to and hosted on Pornhub without their consent \u2014 joined the suit after reaching out to activist Laila Mickelwait.<\/p>\n<p>Unrelenting in her pursuit against the exploitation and sex trafficking of young men and women, including minors, Mickelwait founded the Traffickinghub movement and started a <a href=\"https:\/\/traffickinghubpetition.com\">petition<\/a> to shut down Pornhub, which has been signed by more than 2.2 million people.<\/p>\n<p>One of the underage victims, known as \u201cMichelle,\u201d detailed to CBS \u201cthat she was targeted at age 15 by an abuser who has since been convicted of blackmailing children to sexually abuse themselves on camera\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"26\">\n<p><em>She said that the videos\u2019 uploads on Pornhub had \u201cway, way worse\u201d of an impact on her than even her blackmailer\u2019s initial abuse. \u201cIt was only when my videos went on sites like Pornhub that my life started to become something that I couldn\u2019t live out properly,\u201d she said, adding that she stopped eating, leaving the house and once attempted suicide.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Michelle reported the videos to Pornhub during the fall of 2018 and continued flagging content for the site to take down throughout 2019. And although Pornhub took down all unverified content last year, Michele said she continues to find images of her abuse re-uploaded on other websites. She said, \u201cAny other place I find my videos there\u2019s some type of mention of Pornhub or where they originated from, and my name was always with them.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Strangers continue to contact her about her videos, she said, and one man even showed up at her house, telling her that he\u2019d found her through Pornhub.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe spread of illegal content is an existential threat to the internet, and every platform has the moral obligation to join the fight against it,\u201d MindGeek said in a statement concerning the suit. \u201cIllegal material on the internet harms its victims, internet users, and all platforms that operate online. Any suggestion that the company tolerates or celebrates this material is patently false.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s no secret that the porn industry is rife with abuse. Earlier this week, a San Diego schemer for porn website GirlsDoPorn was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/girlsdoporn-recruiter-sentenced-to-20-years-for-sex-trafficking\">sentenced to 20 years behind bars<\/a> for human trafficking.<\/p>\n<div class=\"crd clln--it\" data-type=\"text\" readability=\"7.5\">\n<div class=\" crd--cnt \" readability=\"10\">\n<p data-page=\"1\" data-item-type=\"depthscroll\" data-item-id=\"depth_scroll_top\" data-item-number=\"top\">Thirty-one-year-old Ruben Garcia, who pleaded guilty in December, forced young women to film pornographic videos and lied to them about their distribution.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cGarcia and the company\u2019s co-owners, Michael Pratt and Matthew Wolfe, tricked young women into filming the videos by posting modeling ads and then coercing their victims into filming porn, the Justice Department said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-sdca\/pr\/twenty-year-sentence-girlsdoporn-sex-trafficking-conspiracy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">press release<\/a>,\u201d the New York Daily News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/news\/national\/ny-girls-do-porn-sentence-ruben-garcia-sex-trafficking-20210616-lrye27jga5aydmh5hqhepat5mm-story.html\">reported<\/a>. \u201cWolfe is still awaiting trial, Pratt fled and is on the FBI\u2019s Most Wanted list.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/girlsdoporn-recruiter-sentenced-to-20-years-for-sex-trafficking\">GirlsDoPorn Recruiter Sentenced To 20 Years For Sex\u00a0Trafficking<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><i>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
