According to the agency, the increases are the largest \u201csince 12-month data were first calculated in November 2010.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Producer prices rose by 0.8% from April \u2014 a rate that significantly <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/06\/15\/retail-sales-producer-price-index-may-2021.html\"><span>exceeded<\/span><\/a><span> Dow Jones\u2019 forecast of 0.5%. In January, February, March, and April, the year-over-year increases in the PPI were 1.6%, 2.8%, 4.2%, and 6.2%, respectively.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The report was released as Wall Street looks to the Federal Reserve\u2019s pending decision on interest rates. Although the central bank has previously <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/despite-skyrocketing-inflation-janet-yellen-will-keep-pushing-for-biden-spending-agenda\"><span>committed<\/span><\/a><span> to aggressive quantitative easing through 2023, rising inflation could lead the Board of Governors to scale back their expansion of the money supply in order to maintain price stability.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Indeed, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) \u2014 which measures price levels for household goods \u2014 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-monthly-inflation-again-passes-economists-expectations-highest-annual-rate-in-more-than-12-years\"><span>climbed<\/span><\/a><span> by 0.6% last month in a 5% year-over-year increase.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Bureau of Labor Statistics explained that much of the PPI\u2019s surge was attributable to rising lumber, fuel, and food costs:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"10\">\n<p><i><span>A major factor in the May advance in prices for processed goods for intermediate demand was the index for lumber, which increased 15.5 percent. Prices for diesel fuel; utility natural gas; structural, architectural, and pre-engineered metal products; ethanol; and beef and veal also moved higher.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>Amid inflationary pressures, the rise in the PPI is worrying business leaders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As The Wall Street Journal <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/producer-prices-inflation-may-2021-11623705627\"><span>reports<\/span><\/a><span>:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"14\">\n<p><i><span>For years economists paid minimal attention to the PPI since it tends to be volatile and doesn\u2019t always move in sync with CPI, said Veronica Clark, economist at Citi.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>That has changed since January, she said. That month, the PPI surged 1.3% versus the previous month and has stayed elevated since. The pickup at the start of the year presaged the stronger-than-expected rise in consumer prices in April and May.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>Bill Adams \u2014 senior economist at PNC Financial Services Group \u2014 remarked that \u201cPPI matters much more than it usually does because inflation matters much more than it has for years.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe haven\u2019t had an inflationary shock like this in a decade,\u201d he explained. \u201cWe know we\u2019re in the middle of an inflationary shock but what we still don\u2019t know is how bad it is. That\u2019s a big part of what we\u2019re looking to these inflation data for.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Other analysts \u2014 including a team of top <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/sitting-on-a-time-bomb-deutsche-bank-sounds-alarm-warns-of-growing-inflation-in-u-s-economy\"><span>economists<\/span><\/a><span> from Deutsche Bank \u2014 believe that rising inflation is far more than temporary in nature.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe worry that inflation will make a comeback,\u201d wrote the Deutsche economists in a recent report. \u201cFew still remember how our societies and economies were threatened by high inflation 50 years ago\u2026 It may take a year longer until 2023 but inflation will re-emerge.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
