That includes grocery shopping, going to the gym, drinking at a bar, seeing a movie or going to church,\u201d per the outlet.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">People who are vaccinated will still be required to wear masks in hospitals, prisons, homeless shelters, while traveling and if they are indoors at K-12 schools, the outlet noted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdph.ca.gov\/Programs\/CID\/DCDC\/Pages\/COVID-19\/Order-of-the-State-Public-Health-Officer-Beyond-Blueprint.aspx\"><span class=\"s1\">order<\/span><\/a> released with the updates, California Public Health Officer Tom\u00e1s J. Arag\u00f3n, M.D., Dr.P.H. said that though Californians \u201chave made significant progress in vaccinating individuals and reducing community transmission thanks to the steps taken by Californians,\u201d COVID-19 is still a public health concern.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe must remain vigilant against variants of the disease especially given high levels of transmission in other parts of the world and due to the possibility of vaccine escape,\u201d Arag\u00f3n noted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As far as what might change for businesses and vendors, the updated guidance <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdph.ca.gov\/Programs\/CID\/DCDC\/Pages\/COVID-19\/guidance-for-face-coverings.aspx#asterisknew\"><span class=\"s1\">explained<\/span><\/a> that in areas where unvaccinated people are the only ones required to wear masks, \u201cbusinesses, venue operators or hosts may choose to\u201d give \u201cinformation to all patrons, guests and attendees regarding vaccination requirements and allow vaccinated individuals to self-attest that they are in compliance prior to entry.\u201d They may also \u201cImplement vaccine verification to determine whether individuals are required to wear a mask\u201d and \u201cRequire all patrons to wear masks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Last week, Newsom said that the state is close to putting out an electronic system that will let businesses verify that patrons have been vaccinated against COVID-19, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegouniontribune.com\/news\/health\/story\/2021-06-11\/governor-a-vaccination-verification-system-is-coming-very-shortly-in-ca\"><span class=\"s1\">reported<\/span><\/a> by The San Diego Union-Tribune.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Newsom said Friday that the \u201cvaccine verification\u201d wording in the guidance is in fact referencing an attempt to assist businesses in electronically verifying if someone is vaccinated, per the outlet.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe would look to help support those efforts and modernize the opportunities, and we\u2019ll be making some announcements very shortly in that space,\u201d Newsom said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThere is no mandate, no requirement, no passport,\u201d Newsom said, adding that the guidelines permit companies to incorporate the system or decline to use it without being punished.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">On Monday, Newsom said more about the \u201csystem,\u201d suggesting that it will simply be vaccine cards in an electronic format.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIt\u2019s not a passport, it\u2019s not a requirement, it\u2019s just the ability now to have an electronic version of that paper version, so you\u2019ll hear more about that in the next couple of days,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/politics\/article\/Gavin-Newsom-vaccine-passports-California-COVID-19-16246673.php\"><span class=\"s1\">reiterated<\/span><\/a>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Vaccine passports have been a controversial program and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/another-u-s-state-bans-vaccine-passports\"><span class=\"s1\">multiple states<\/span><\/a> have taken to banning them altogether.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/senator-cruz-others-introduce-bill-to-ban-federal-coronavirus-passports\"><span class=\"s1\">reported<\/span><\/a> by The Daily Wire last month, Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX), Mike Braun (R-IN), and Cynthia Lummis (R-WY)\u00a0<span class=\"s1\">introduced<\/span> a bill to ban the federal government from creating vaccine passports.
