Version: 4.0.47--><div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/GettyImages-887657568-1200x800-2.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"  style=\"display:none\"><\/div>\n<p><span>Prices of the world\u2019s largest cryptocurrency by value, Bitcoin, have surged after the announcement of its first upgrade in four years, with improvements planned to both the cryptocurrency\u2019s privacy and efficiency.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cBitcoin miners \u2014 those who secure the bitcoin network and validate transactions in return for bitcoin tokens \u2014 approved the long-awaited upgrade, known as taproot, that\u2019s due to take effect in November,\u201d reported <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/billybambrough\/2021\/06\/14\/bitcoin-price-surge-bitcoin-confirms-massive-new-upgrade-amid-competition-from-ethereum-cardano-and-binances-bnb\/?sh=5cd38d604f91\"><span>Forbes<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cTaproot, the most anticipated upgrade to the bitcoin protocol since segregated witness (SegWit) in 2017, is expected to improve bitcoin\u2019s privacy and efficiency via a new signature scheme known as Schnorr that will replace bitcoin\u2019s current elliptic curve digital signature algorithm (ECDSA).\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cTaproot is a very important upgrade that allows new levels of development hitherto impossible on bitcoin\u2019s blockchain and further cements bitcoin\u2019s position as the most relevant of all cryptocurrencies,\u201d said Jason Deane, a bitcoin analyst for Quantum Economics. \u201cIn our view, the potential impact is probably not yet fully understood by the wider community, but this is likely to be become clearer over time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to Forbes, cryptocurrency venture capitalist Nic Carter described Taproot as a \u201cbig landmark\u201d which \u201cdemonstrates a new activation pathway which is apparently functional.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe technical change is important and warranted but to me, the most salient point is the fact that bitcoin governance and the upgrade process works,\u201d Carter added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Forbes also reported that Cory Klippsten, the chief executive of Swan Bitcoin, said that \u201cTaproot adds important new functionality to the bitcoin protocol.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cBut perhaps more important is that its adoption was nearly unanimous,\u201d Klippsten continued. \u201cIn the wake of the block size war of 2017, the smooth taproot upgrade is a demonstration of strong consensus about the direction of base layer protocol development.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cTaproot matters, because it opens a breadth of opportunity for entrepreneurs interested in expanding bitcoin\u2019s utility,\u201d said Alyse Killeen, founder and managing partner of bitcoin-focused venture firm Stillmark, according to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/06\/12\/bitcoin-taproot-upgrade-what-it-means.html\"><span>CNBC<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>While Bitcoin currently uses \u201cElliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm,\u201d which is \u201ccreated from the private key which controls a bitcoin wallet and ensures that bitcoin can only be spent by the rightful owner,\u201d Taproot will utilize \u201cSchnorr signatures,\u201d which \u201cessentially makes multi-signature transactions unreadable,\u201d CNBC added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe most important thing for Taproot is\u2026smart contracts,\u201d said CEO of cryptocurrency mining specialist Marathon Digital Holdings, Fred Thiel. \u201cIt\u2019s already the primary driver of innovation on the ethereum network. Smart contracts essentially give you the opportunity to really build applications and businesses on the blockchain.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The price of Bitcoin rose to more than $39,000 in reaction to the approval of Taproot. Prices also rose following SpaceX CEO Elon Musk\u2019s announcement that Tesla would resume accepting Bitcoin <\/span><span>as soon as the cryptocurrency relies on a more efficient and greener use of energy, as reported by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/elon-musk-says-tesla-will-accept-bitcoin-if-cryptocurrency-miners-use-clean-energy\"><span>The Daily Wire<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThis is inaccurate,\u201d Musk tweeted in response to Wierzycka, who said, \u201cWhat we have seen with Bitcoin is price manipulation by one very powerful and influential individual.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cTesla only sold ~10% of holdings to confirm BTC could be liquidated easily without moving market,\u201d Musk continued. \u201cWhen there\u2019s confirmation of reasonable (~50%) clean energy usage by miners with positive future trend, Tesla will resume allowing Bitcoin transactions.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
