But her sister, Maya, is one of her most trusted advisers, according to Axios.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf somebody doesn\u2019t knock it out of the park their first time, then they will always have a tough time,\u201d a former aide said, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/kamala-harris-trip-problems-rekindle-2020-campaign-doubts-f08f807e-c00a-432a-a562-3c2a2beaa634.html?utm_source=facebook&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=editorial&amp;utm_content=politics-kamalaharris&amp;fbclid=IwAR3OH_V3H8V-0kByGlN5Nar4FfSccZMIPHTzaamH5cwxMVf1SyNm9IBA6ws\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Axios<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKamala and Maya are a trip,\u201d Ben Jealous, a former NAACP president and a 2016 surrogate for Bernie Sanders, said. \u201cThey are a power couple of sisters unlike we have ever seen in U.S. politics,\u201d he continued, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/talkingpointsmemo.com\/dc\/maya-harris-sister-kamala-harris-campaign-chairman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Talking Points Memo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>During her presidential bid, Kamala allegedly struggled to get along with advisers as she was unable to decide whether she wanted to be more progressive or moderate, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/11\/29\/us\/politics\/kamala-harris-2020.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The New York Times<\/a> (NYT). Maya, one of Kamala\u2019s advisers, reportedly went \u201cunchallenged\u201d quite often, bothering some of Harris\u2019 other advisers.<\/p>\n<p>In one instance, Maya and other advisers reportedly fought over how to portray Kamala\u2019s role as a prosecutor, which had come under fire, according to the NYT.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne campaign strategist said it was impossible to tell if Maya Harris was speaking for herself, as an adviser, or as her sister\u2019s representative,\u201d the NYT wrote, noting Maya had a large influence on the logistical details of the campaign, including hiring.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe uncertainty over who has the final signify has made it more difficult for the campaign to quickly execute decisions and Maya Harris\u2019s dual roles as relative and adviser prompted the candidates\u2019 staff to be more restrained about the advice they offer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Still, Maya and Kamala are exceptionally close, with Kamala once saying the pair \u201cforged a bond that is unbreakable,\u201d during their childhood, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/lifestyle\/2021\/01\/11\/maya-kamala-harris-sister\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Washington Post<\/a>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/20\/kamala-harris-sister-maya-harris-just-verdict-not-same-justice-chauvin-found-guilty-all-counts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Kamala Harris\u2019 Sister Says A \u2018Just Verdict\u2019 Not The Same \u2018As Justice\u2019 After Chauvin Found Guilty On All Counts)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Maya, gave birth to her daughter Meena at the age of 17. Later on she attended Stanford Law School. While in school, she met her future husband Tony West. <strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>West once served as the associate attorney general of the U.S. Senate and currently serves as the Chief Legal Officer for Uber.<\/p>\n<p>Maya began working on Kamala\u2019s campaign to be San Francisco\u2019s district attorney.
