Headaches and sore throats may now be \u201cmore common than fevers and coughs, according to a warning by UK experts,\u201d the New York Post <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/06\/14\/main-covid-symptoms-headaches-and-sore-throats-uk-expert-warns\/\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018COVID is acting differently now, it\u2019s more like a cold,\u2019 Tim Spector, a professor of genetic epidemiology who has been tracking symptoms throughout the pandemic, told the Telegraph,\u201d the Post wrote. \u201cNow, the most likely warning sign is a headache, followed by a sore throat and runny nose, the King\u2019s College London professor said.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll those are not the old classic symptoms,\u201d Spector told the Telegraph, \u201cwith the previous main indicators \u2014 a fever and cough \u2014 now respectively the fourth and fifth most likely symptoms, Spector told the UK paper\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"11\">\n<p><em>Spector said the shift became evident last month. It\u2019s not yet clear exactly why it has changed, although one theory is it reflects the spread of the highly contagious Indian variant, which Dr. Anthony Fauci has warned could become the most dominant one in the US.\u00a0\u201cThis variant seems to be working slightly differently,\u201d Spector said.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Another theory is that with many people returning to regular life, more young people are getting the virus, and many have milder symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>Spector warns that people may have COVID-19 and \u201caren\u2019t realizing\u201d it.\u00a0\u201cPeople might think they\u2019ve got some sort of seasonal cold and they still go out to parties and they might spread it around,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a CDC advisory panel is set to hold an emergency meeting to examine reports of heart inflammation in young males after doses of COVID-19 vaccine.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting, set for Friday, comes as reports have emerged of cases of myocarditis, which is the inflammation of heart muscles. The inflammation has occurred in young males who received their second dose of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, but Fox News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\/cdc-looking-into-reports-of-heart-inflammation-in-young-males-after-covid-shot\">reported<\/a> that the inflammations are \u201cvery rare and have not been directly linked to the vaccines.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPreliminary findings suggest the number of heart inflammation cases in people ages 16 to 24 following the second dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines is higher than expected,\u201d The Hill <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/changing-america\/well-being\/longevity\/557792-heart-inflammation-in-young-adults-higher-than-expected\">reported<\/a>. \u201cLimited data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention\u2019s (CDC) vaccine safety monitor system shows there have been 275 reported cases of myocarditis or pericarditis \u2014 inflammation conditions in the heart \u2014 in 16- to 24-year-old patients as of May 31. Most cases appear to occur in men.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0a CDC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/media\/150054\/download\">presentation<\/a> prepared for a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory panel meeting last Thursday, the expected number of heart inflammation cases was between 10 and 102.<\/p>\n<p>More than 12 million people within that age group have been fully vaccinated, and one CDC doctor warned that the data is incomplete.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a bit of an apples-to-oranges comparison because, again, these are preliminary reports. Not all these will turn out to be true myocarditis or pericarditis reports,\u201d CDC\u2019s Dr. Tom Shimabukuro said, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/covid-19-vaccine-myocarditis-heart-inflammation-cdc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a> to CBS News. The doctor also said most of those who have reported the condition are already fully recovered.<\/p>\n<p>The CDC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/vaccines\/keythingstoknow.html?s_cid=10493:us%20vaccine:sem.ga:p:RG:GM:gen:PTN:FY21\">says<\/a> COVID-19 vaccines are \u201csafe and effective.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou may have side effects after vaccination. These are normal and should go away in a few days,\u201d says the CDC. \u201cIt typically takes two weeks after vaccination for the body to build protection (immunity) against the virus that causes COVID-19.
