The same night, Fox News Channel\u2019s \u201cTucker Carlson Tonight\u201d won 2.97 million viewers.<\/p>\n<p>Carlson beat Obama among those in in the coveted 25-54 demographic, winning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adweek.com\/tvnewser\/monday-june-7-scoreboard-fox-news-has-top-4-shows-among-adults-25-54-and-top-3-in-total-viewers\/480469\/\">506,000<\/a> younger viewers, compared with 279,00 for Obama\u2019s interview. CNN had previously <a href=\"https:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2016\/07\/27\/media\/fox-news-gop-problem\/index.html\">denounced<\/a> Fox News\u2019 \u201ccore audience\u201d as \u201cold, white conservatives\u201d attracted to FNC\u2019s \u201carchaic, Mad Men-era view of the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Obama sat down for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/obama-if-you-oppose-my-anti-police-comments-youre-racist\">one-hour interview<\/a> with Anderson Cooper, where he said Americans who <a href=\"https:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2016\/07\/27\/media\/fox-news-gop-problem\/index.html\">rejected his anti-police rhetoric<\/a> suffered from \u201cdeep\u201d and \u201cunconscious\u201d racial bias.<\/p>\n<p>Carlson spent much of the week featuring the emotional testimony of parents at school board meetings nationwide, opposing the teaching of critical theory in the nation\u2019s elementary schools. Meanwhile, Obama snarked, \u201clo and behold, the single most important issue to [Republicans] currently, right now, is critical race theory. Who knew that that was the threat to our republic?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also said he never expected President Donald Trump to be so successful in imposing his conservative agenda, because \u201cI thought that there were enough guardrails institutionally that, even after Trump was elected that you would have the so-called Republican Establishment\u201d oppose him from within.<\/p>\n<p>And Obama lamented the availability of a broad and diverse range of views in the media. \u201cYou don\u2019t have just Walter Cronkite delivering the news, but you have 1,000 different venues. All that has contributed to that sense that we don\u2019t have anything in common,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, the American people preferred to tune in to another one of those 1,000 different venues than watch the former president.<\/p>\n<p>Obama\u2019s ratings flop came as Fox News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adweek.com\/tvnewser\/week-of-may-31-basic-cable-ranker-fox-news-marks-16-consecutive-weeks-as-most-watched-in-total-day-but-remains-second-in-prime-time\/480352\/\">continued<\/a> its streak as the nation\u2019s most-watched cable news network for the 16th week in a row, according to Nielsen ratings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMonday marked CNN\u2019s first time exceeding 1 million viewers so far in the month of June,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/cnn-needs-obama-for-ratings-boost\">reported<\/a> Fox News. \u201cIn May, CNN failed to reach a seven-digit audience 13 out of the 31 days, roughly 42% of the month.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/ratings-crash-cnn-falls-out-of-cables-top-5-networks-in-prime-time\">crashed out of the top five<\/a> cable news networks in May.<\/p>\n<p>CNN actually fell out of the top 10 networks on cable during the week of May 31, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/511065306\/Week-of-May-31-basic-cable-ranker-Total-Viewers#from_embed\">finishing 12th<\/a>, behind TNT, Fox News, MSNBC, HGTV, ESPN, TBS, NBC Sports, Hallmark, TLC, Discovery, and the History Channel.<\/p>\n<p>Still, the former president\u2019s interview powered CNN to a rare second-place victory over MSNBC\u2019s \u201cAll In with Chris Hayes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fox News enjoyed a highly successful week, debuting two new weekend shows: \u201cUnfiltered\u201d starring FNC contributor and talk radio host Dan Bongino, and \u201cSunday Night in America\u201d with former Congressman Trey Gowdy. Both shows won their respective time slots this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps having his own ratings failure in view, Obama blasted \u201ccertain right-wing media venues, for example, that monetize and capitalize on stoking the fear and resentment of a White population that is witnessing a changing America and seeing demographic changes, and do everything they can to give people a sense that their way of life is threatened and that people are trying to take advantage of them.
