The inflammation has occurred in young males who received their second dose of the Pfizer and Moderna\u00a0vaccines, but Fox News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\/cdc-looking-into-reports-of-heart-inflammation-in-young-males-after-covid-shot\">reports<\/a> that the inflammations are \u201cvery rare and have not been directly linked to the vaccines.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPreliminary findings suggest the number of heart inflammation cases in people ages 16 to 24 following the second dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines is higher than expected,\u201d The Hill <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/changing-america\/well-being\/longevity\/557792-heart-inflammation-in-young-adults-higher-than-expected\">reported<\/a>. \u201cLimited data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention\u2019s (CDC) vaccine safety monitor system shows there have been 275 reported cases of myocarditis or pericarditis \u2014 inflammation conditions in the heart \u2014 in 16- to 24-year-old patients as of May 31. Most cases appear to occur in men.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0a CDC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/media\/150054\/download\">presentation<\/a> prepared for a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory panel meeting on Thursday, the expected number of heart inflammation cases was between 10 and 102.<\/p>\n<p>More than 12 million people within that age group have been fully vaccinated, and one CDC doctor warned that the data is incomplete.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a bit of an apples-to-oranges comparison because, again, these are preliminary reports. Not all these will turn out to be true myocarditis or pericarditis reports,\u201d CDC\u2019s Dr. Tom Shimabukuro said, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/covid-19-vaccine-myocarditis-heart-inflammation-cdc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a> to CBS News. The doctor also said most of those who have reported the condition are already fully recovered.<\/p>\n<p>During a later panel discussion on Thursday, Dr. Cody Meissner said he was \u201cworried\u201d about the heart issues and wondered whether there will be scarring of the muscular tissue of the heart or arrhythmia as a result of the condition, CNBC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/06\/10\/covid-vaccine-cdc-says-heart-inflammation-cases-in-16-to-24-year-olds-higher-than-expected-after-second-shot.html\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that\u2019s unlikely, but we don\u2019t know that,\u201d said Meissner, a professor of pediatrics at Tufts University School of Medicine. \u201cSo, before we start vaccinating millions of adolescents and children, it\u2019s so important to find out what the consequences are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The CDC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/vaccines\/keythingstoknow.html?s_cid=10493:us%20vaccine:sem.ga:p:RG:GM:gen:PTN:FY21\">says<\/a> COVID-19 vaccines are \u201csafe and effective.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou may have side effects after vaccination. These are normal and should go away in a few days,\u201d says the CDC. \u201cIt typically takes two weeks after vaccination for the body to build protection (immunity) against the virus that causes COVID-19.
