Plus, stars behave badly like the rest of us do.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Sometimes a tad worse.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Yet for every <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/5-stars-who-stood-up-to-cancel-culture-and-5-who-bowed-down\">Ricky Gervais<\/a> or Dave Chappelle there are others who, on the surface, salute Cancel Culture in all its insidious forms. These stars may have ulterior motives for their positions. Taken at face value, they have no problem with their peers being canceled for reasons both understandable and absurd.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Katt Williams<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span>The veteran comic has a rap sheet that suggests he could be Canceled at any moment. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/entertainment\/gossip\/katt-williams-unleashes-anti-mexican-rant-heckler-phoenix-show-article-1.950941\"><span>Williams shouted racially charged insults<\/span><\/a><span> at a Mexican heckler in 2011, and got charged with assault following a 2018 airport incident. He\u2019s been arrested at least a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/life\/people\/2018\/10\/07\/katt-williams-arrested-charged-assault-driver-argument-over-dog\/1558437002\/\"><span>dozen times over the years<\/span><\/a><span>, from throwing a salt shaker at someone to shoplifting and verbal threats.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Now, Williams insists that Cancel <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2021\/06\/katt-williams-cancel-culture-cancellation-doesnt-have-its-own-culture-1234770093\/\"><span>Culture doesn\u2019t actually exist<\/span><\/a><span>. What does, he argues, is holding people responsible for their actions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cSome of these things are for the benefit of everything,\u201d Williams responded. \u201cNobody likes the speed limit, but it\u2019s necessary. Nobody likes the shoulder of the road, but it\u2019s there for a reason. My point is, [people] weren\u2019t all that extremely funny back when they could say whatever they wanted to say.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>He also says of the people being cancelled \u2026 good riddance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI don\u2019t know what people got cancelled that we wish we had back. Who are they? It\u2019s done for the reasons it\u2019s done for and it helped who it helped \u2026If all that\u2019s going to happen is that we have to be more sensitive in the way that we talk, isn\u2019t that what we want anyway? I\u2019m saying, your job as a comedian is to please the most amount of people with your art. Don\u2019t call somebody this word when you know it affects all of these people.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Seth Rogen<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span>The \u201cKnocked Up\u201d alum became a star via bro-tastic comedies where the men-children used up all of their white privilege, to steal the far-Left\u2019s vernacular.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Think \u201cSuperbad,\u201d \u201cThe 40-Year-Old Virgin\u201d and \u201cPineapple Express.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Now, he\u2019s ready to apology for his unwoke jokes and make movies where the progressivism laps the laughs. His 2019 dud \u201cLong Shot\u201d proved the latter all too well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Rogen also spends interview time regretting the laughter that lined his pockets for the past decade. He all but slaps Cancel Culture on the back and asks if he can buy it a drink.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Sound harsh? Consider what <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/2021\/05\/seth-rogen-comedians-complaining-cancel-culture-1234640086\/\"><span>Rogen told an interviewer<\/span><\/a><span> recently while promoting his new tome, \u201cYearbook.\u201d Sounds like he has no beef with maligning his own material. Call it the woke version of, \u201ckill your darlings.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThere are certain jokes that for sure have not aged well, but I think that\u2019s the nature of comedy\u2026 I think conceptually those movies are sound and I think there\u2019s a reason they\u2019ve lasted as far as people still watching and enjoying them today. Jokes are not things that necessarily are built to last.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>He also resents comedians complaining about Cancel Culture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cTo me when I see comedians complaining about this kind of thing, I don\u2019t understand what they\u2019re complaining about. If you\u2019ve made a joke that\u2019s aged terribly, accept it. And if you don\u2019t think it\u2019s aged terribly, then say that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Is he kissing up to the woke mob, knowing they might \u201cresurface\u201d one of his \u201cproblematic\u201d jokes next? Only Rogen knows for sure.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Tina Fey<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span>The \u201c30 Rock\u201d alum fought back against an early version of Cancel Culture after woke scolds said her \u201cUnbreakable Kimmy Schmidt\u201d show dabbled in culturally insensitive storytelling. One example? Caucasian co-star Jane Krakowski played a character on the Netflix comedy who learns she is part Native American, sparking an effort to connect with her heritage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Fey\u2019s response?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vulture.com\/2015\/12\/tina-fey-is-opting-out-of-explaining-her-jokes.html\"><span>My new goal is to not explain jokes,\u201d Fey said before<\/span><\/a><span> theoretically dropping the mic. Even a Native-American actor on the show, Gil Birmingham, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/gil-birmingham-interview-hell-high-water\/\"><span>dismissed the criticism outright.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>That was in 2015. Now, months after blackface episodes of her signature \u201c30 Rock\u201d show got erased Fey is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2021\/tv\/features\/tina-fey-mean-girls-movie-snl-1234967386\/\"><span>singing a far different tune<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cEveryone\u2019s figuring out what the new rules of comedy are. They definitely have\u00a0changed for the better. Trope and joke structures that were based around othering people or minimizing people, good comedy writers are challenging themselves to walk away from that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Levar Burton<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span>The \u201cReading Rainbow\u201d alum flirted with becoming the new \u201cJeopardy\u201d host following Alex Trebek\u2019s death at the age of 81. It could still, in theory, happen following his guest hosting gig.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>That flurry of press allowed him to weigh in on a number of issues, including Cancel Culture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe View\u2019s\u201d Meghan McCain pressed Burton on the subject, given the recent cancellation of beloved author Dr. Seuss and the star\u2019s \u201cReading\u201d fame.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>First, Burton downplayed how Seuss, Inc. removed six books from his collection after a likely small number of complaints of racially charged imagery emerged.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Next, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/levar-burton-meghan-mccain-cancel-culture_n_6086e01ce4b0ccb91c27d75d\"><span>actor defended Cancel Culture<\/span><\/a><span>, saying it\u2019s an inappropriate name for what it actually does.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI think we have a consequence culture, and that consequences are finally encompassing everybody in this society, whereas they haven\u2019t been ever in this country.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Jameela Jamil<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span>The actress best known for her work on \u201cThe Good Place\u201d is one of the industry\u2019s wokest stars. So it\u2019s no shock to hear her defend Cancel Culture \u2026 to a point.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Her take on the trend is more <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.harvard.edu\/gazette\/story\/2020\/09\/jameela-jamil-talks-cancel-culture-in-hollywood\/\"><span>nuanced than expected<\/span><\/a><span>, though. She\u2019s mostly fed up with her fellow stars who think being critiqued is the same as being expunged from the industry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe need to separate what\u2019s been canceled and what\u2019s being called out. Celebrities are such snowflakes. They don\u2019t know how to take criticism, because they\u2019ve never been criticized before. So when they\u2019ve just been called out, they\u2019ll cry cancel culture, but that\u2019s not very helpful because it muddies the waters to what cancellation is. Cancellation means being de-platformed, having your rights taken away, your job taken away, your finances being harmed. That mostly happens to civilians, not celebrities. I got canceled 45 times in February. All of my shows got recommissioned, I landed a huge campaign, and my book deal remains. I\u2019m [expletive] fine.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>It\u2019s worth noting her hard-left positions inoculate her against some, not all, of the woke mob.
