If they don\u2019t, they face suspensions and even termination.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are nearly 100% compliant with our COVID-19 vaccine mandate,\u201d Boom said in an email to staffers on Tuesday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/health\/2021\/06\/09\/houston-methodist-hospital-workers-refuse-covid-vaccine-get-suspended\/7616446002\/\">according<\/a> to USA Today. \u201cHouston Methodist is officially the first hospital system in the country to achieve this goal for the benefit of its patients.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But nearly 200 workers haven\u2019t agreed to take the vaccine.\u00a0\u201cI wish the number could be zero, but unfortunately, a small number of individuals have decided not to put their patients first,\u201d Boom said.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s not how <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/lorri-curto-86064820a\">Lorri Curto<\/a>, a former nurse at the hospital, sees it. She says she is one of 117 former employees who have filed suit over the facility\u2019s mandate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am a Master\u2019s educated Registered Nurse with 34 years of experience,\u201d Curto wrote in an email to The Daily Wire. \u201cAs one of the 117 former employees of Houston Methodist Hospital (HMH) who are named in the current lawsuit, I read your articles on The Daily Wire with interest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/hospital-workers-face-termination-over-refusal-to-get-covid-19-vaccine\">covered<\/a> the hospital\u2019s suspension of employees and addressed the issue of employer mandates of vaccines in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/can-an-employer-mandate-a-covid-19-vaccination\">an op-ed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had a number of interchanges with Dr. Boom regarding Methodist\u2019s plan to make the Covid Vaccine mandatory in the months leading up to the mandate and there are several points that I feel need to be made when covering this story,\u201d Curto said. \u201cFirst, many of us who have been fired are not anti-vax people as we are being portrayed by Dr. Boom and the news media. If the Covid vaccine had been fully vetted by the FDA, my hesitation would have been significantly decreased.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit noted that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not fully approved the vaccines, instead only issuing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/emergency-preparedness-and-response\/coronavirus-disease-2019-covid-19\/covid-19-vaccines\">emergency use authorizations<\/a> (EUA).\u00a0The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/vaccines\/safety\/safety-of-vaccines.html\">CDC\u2019s guidance<\/a> on the vaccines describes them as \u201csafe and effective,\u201d citing evaluations of \u201ctens of thousands of participants in clinical trials\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"13\">\n<p><em>Over 302 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given in the United States from December 14, 2020, through June 7, 2021.\u00a0COVID-19 vaccines are <strong>safe and effective<\/strong>. COVID-19 vaccines were evaluated in tens of thousands of participants in clinical trials. The vaccines met the Food and Drug Administration\u2019s (FDA) rigorous scientific standards for safety, effectiveness, and manufacturing quality needed to support emergency use authorization (EUA).\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The workers allege the hospital is \u201cillegally requiring its employees to be injected with an experimental vaccine as a condition of employment.\u201d\u00a0Curto said she was informed about the vaccine requirement in May, but told her supervisor she wouldn\u2019t be taking it. She said she soon received papers that said \u201cyour employment is terminated June 7.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDr. Boom has repeatedly compared the situation to when HMH mandated the flu vaccine and nobody in the media wants to confront him with the fact that he is comparing apples to oranges,\u201d Curto said. \u201cThe flu vaccine has had decades of evidence supporting its use, not months, and it has received full approval from the FDA. Dr. Boom consistently wants to frame the question as \u2018putting patients first,\u2019 which again is not accurate. If it was truly about putting patients first, people would have been checked for antibodies prior to receiving any vaccine. His claim that the employees who have taken the vaccine have done so in order to \u2018keep patients at the center\u2019 is also patently untrue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHMH started vaccinating employees in December 2020 and when people weren\u2019t lining up to get it fast enough, HMH then offered a $500 incentive to employees to take the vaccine,\u201d said Curto, suggesting that the motivation to get the vaccine by employees was really about keeping their jobs. \u201cI would appreciate it if someone in the media would recognize and publicize how Dr. Boom and those like him have manipulated the language in this conversation,\u201d Curto asserted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHouston Methodist went from volunteer to incentivize to coercion very quickly. In fact \u2018very quickly\u2019 describes everything about the Covid-19 vaccine. THAT is the problem!\u201d Curto wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the unprecedented speed of the vaccines\u2019 production, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/vaccines\/safety\/safety-of-vaccines.html\">CDC<\/a> maintains that they have proven to be safe and assures the public that the vaccines are undergoing\u00a0\u201cthe most intensive safety monitoring in U.S. history\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"8\">\n<p><em>Millions of people in the United States have received COVID-19 vaccines since they were authorized for emergency use by FDA.
