This election will be the first time eligible voters in the city will be using ranked-choice voting, Pix11 <a href=\"https:\/\/pix11.com\/news\/new-york-elections\/ranked-choice-voting-everything-to-know-ahead-of-nyc-primary-early-voting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/02\/25\/bill-de-blasio-investigation-andrew-cuomo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: De Blasio Calls For Investigation Into Cuomo Sexual Harassment Claims)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The system, which eliminates the need for run-off elections, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/06\/10\/de-blasio-uses-pizza-toppings-to-explain-ranked-choice-voting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to the New York Post, will be used for choosing the city\u2019s next mayor, public advocate, comptroller, and borough presidents. Each column in the ballot represents a ranking\u2014first choice, second choice, and so on. The rows represent the candidates contesting in the election.<\/p>\n<p>Voters can then choose where they want to place their five candidates in the ranking system by filling out the columns in order of preference.<\/p>\n<p>When the votes are counted, and no candidate gets a majority of the first-place votes, a run-off round is triggered. The candidate having the least amount of first-place votes in each round gets eliminated, Pix11 reported. The voters who voted for that candidate will then get their second-place votes counted.<\/p>\n<p>According to a PIX11\/NewsNation\/Emerson College <a href=\"https:\/\/pix11.com\/news\/new-york-elections\/pix11-mayors-race-poll-adams-leads-wiley-jumps-to-2nd-after-aoc-endorsement-rival-scandals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">poll<\/a>, voters in the city are slowly beginning to comprehend the system, the outlet reported, with 64% of those surveyed saying they\u2019ve \u201cheard a lot about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the Thursday media appearance, De Blasio tried his hand at helping his constituents comprehend the system.<\/p>\n<p>Pulling up a large mock ballot to vote for \u201cBest NYC Pizza Topping,\u201d the mayor tries to rank his choice of top pizza toppings by order of preference to illustrate how ranked-choice voting would work.\u00a0 The possible choices in the ballot are olives, pineapples, vegan cheese, clams, sausage, mushrooms, green peppers, and pepperoni.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>One thing that the \u201cbizarre\u201d pizza chart missed, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/news\/politics\/nyc-elections-2021\/ny-nyc-de-blasio-pizza-ranked-choice-voting-20210610-xusec7uvdfgjbmd4zbddoxtxma-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Daily News<\/a>, was common toppings such as spinach, anchovies, onions and extra cheese.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Mayor de Blasio Hosts Media Availability\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/akpj6qpgYg4?start=735&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of people don\u2019t appreciate green peppers enough,\u201d de Blasio says as he ranked green peppers as his first choice. \u201cI have southern Italian roots. Green peppers are a very big, important part of our life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He then selects olives as his second choice, saying he \u201chad very good experiences with olives,\u201d before ranking sausage third, mushrooms fourth, and pepperoni in fifth place.<\/p>\n<p>For the choices he didn\u2019t choose, he says vegan cheese is something he\u2019s \u201cnot ready for.\u201d As for clams, he says \u201cWe\u2019re not New Haven.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When referring to pineapple, he says, \u201cWe\u2019re not in California, OK? This is sacrilegious in Italy to put pineapple on a pizza.
