It seems to be fabricated.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Bourdain, a celebrity chef and TV personality known for hosting the series \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.travelchannel.com\/shows\/anthony-bourdain\">No Reservations<\/a>\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/shows\/anthony-bourdain-parts-unknown\/\">Parts Unknown<\/a>,\u201d died by suicide in June 2018, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Entertainment\/News\/anthony-bourdain-dies-61\/story?id=55744428\">ABC News<\/a>. Now, a tweet he allegedly sent in the weeks before his death is being shared on social media.<\/p>\n<p>A June 7 Instagram post shows an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CP1PrzNtIL0\/?utm_source=ig_embed&#038;ig_rid=d2e42be6-b7c5-4608-85df-e3e1dbd296fe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">image<\/a> of what appears to be a May 22, 2018 tweet sent at 5:40 p.m. from Bourdain\u2019s verified Twitter account that reads, \u201cThis might be the best bat soup I ever had in my life. Someday everyone\u2019s gonna be talking about Wuhan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>COVID-19, the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/article\/coronavirus-timeline.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">first reported<\/a> in the Chinese city of Wuhan in late 2019. Some people\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health\/bat-soup-coronavirus\">erroneously<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/foreignpolicy.com\/2020\/01\/27\/coronavirus-covid19-dont-blame-bat-soup-for-the-virus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">believed<\/a> COVID-19 emanated from bat soup.\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2020\/02\/12\/fact-check-lab-logo-wuhan-resident-evil\/\">(RELATED: Viral Image Claims To Show A Wuhan Lab With The Same Logo As The Fictional \u2018Resident Evil\u2019 Lab)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There is no evidence that Bourdain sent the tweet. It does not appear on Bourdain\u2019s verified Twitter account, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=bat%20soup%20(from%3ABourdain)&#038;src=typed_query\">@Bourdain<\/a>, nor can it be found on <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20180524200034\/https:\/mobile.twitter.com\/Bourdain\">archived<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20180608152255\/https:\/twitter.com\/Bourdain\">versions<\/a> of his account from around the time he supposedly sent it. No such comment could be found on his other verified <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/anthonybourdain\/\">social<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/profile\/100044282146671\/search\/?q=Wuhan\">media<\/a> accounts either.<\/p>\n<p>Check Your Fact didn\u2019t find any evidence in media reports that Bourdain ever ate bat soup in Wuhan. The city is not listed on Lonely Planet\u2019s article \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lonelyplanet.com\/articles\/bourdain-day-a-z\">An A-Z of places Anthony Bourdain visited around the world<\/a>.\u201d He did travel to Sichuan, China, in 2016 to film an episode of \u201cParts Unknown,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eater.com\/2016\/10\/16\/13278532\/anthony-bourdain-parts-unknown-sichuan-china-recap\">Eater.com<\/a>, but did not appear to have eaten bat soup there.<\/p>\n<p>Bourdain <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Bourdain\/status\/999042448419639296\">tweeted<\/a> at 5:40 p.m. on May 22, 2018, but his tweet was about film director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0000490\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Spike Lee<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.festival-cannes.com\/en\/infos-communiques\/communique\/articles\/the-2018-official-selection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2018 Cannes Film Festival<\/a>.
