If a mother attempted to get an abortion because the mother wanted a son, not a daughter, for example, a doctor must deny her an abortion under the new law. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/23\/florida-house-bans-abortion-down-syndrome\/\">(RELATED: \u2018Modern Day Eugenics\u2019: Florida House Passes Bill Banning Abortions Based On Disability)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cA person shall not intentionally or knowingly perform, induce, or attempt to perform or induce an abortion of an unborn child if the abortion is being sought because of the actual or presumed race or sex of the unborn child or because of the presence or presumed presence of Down syndrome,\u201d the legislation said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChildren should not have to pass a genetic test to earn the right to be born,\u201d Republican Sen. Joyce Krawiec <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/down-syndrome-abortion-race-and-ethnicity-racial-injustice-business-50af6b46b435686a440ae71f0cfb7c2c\">told the Associated Press<\/a>, noting that the bill would prevent \u201cmodern-day eugenics.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/01\/12\/kristi-noem-abortion-down-syndrome-baby\/\">(RELATED: Kristi Noem Proposes Banning Abortions Of \u2018A Preborn Child\u2019 Based On Down Syndrome Diagnoses)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>North Carolina senators approved the bill Thursday, sending it to Democratic Gov. Four vaccinated North Carolinians ages 18+ will win $1 million each and four people ages 12 \u2013 17 will win post-secondary education tuition.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GQvQg6nBDG\">https:\/\/t.co\/GQvQg6nBDG<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/aPZwm2mVkZ\">pic.twitter.com\/aPZwm2mVkZ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Governor Roy Cooper (@NC_Governor) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NC_Governor\/status\/1403076451595862016?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 10, 2021<\/a> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The governor will most likely veto the measure since he has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2019\/04\/18\/us\/north-carolina-abortion-born-alive-bill\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vetoed<\/a> pro-life legislation in the past, such as the state\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncleg.gov\/Sessions\/2019\/Bills\/Senate\/PDF\/S359v2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act<\/a>,\u201d which required doctors to provide care to infants born alive in botched abortions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLaws already protect newborn babies and this bill is an unnecessary interference between doctors and their patients,\u201d Cooper <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsobserver.com\/news\/politics-government\/article229409404.html\">said in April 2019<\/a> when he vetoed the bill. \u201cThis needless legislation would criminalize doctors and other healthcare providers for a practice that simply does not exist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Multiple other states, such as Florida and Arizona, have recently passed legislation intended to protect unborn babies with Down Syndrome. Republican South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem <a href=\"https:\/\/ktiv.com\/2021\/03\/26\/south-dakota-governor-signs-bill-banning-abortions-based-on-down-syndrome-diagnosis\/\">signed<\/a> such a bill into law in March. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/13\/court-ohio-abortion-ban-down-syndrome\/\">(RELATED: Federal Court Upholds Ohio Ban On Aborting Babies Because Of Down Syndrome)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Declaration of Independence summarizes what we all know in our hearts to be true: God created each of us and endowed all of us with the right to life,\u201d Noem said at the time. \u201cThis is true for everyone, including those with an extra chromosome.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI look forward to the day when the Supreme Court recognizes that all preborn children inherently possess this right to life, too,\u201d she added. \u201cUntil that time comes, I am pleased to sign a ban on the abortion of a preborn child, just because that child is diagnosed with Down syndrome.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
