It is intended to be a \u201ccompanion piece\u201d to the epic fantasy series with \u201cstory and artistic elements woven throughout that will reconnect fans to the excitement and cinematic wonder of Middle-earth.\u201d Warner Bros promises it will \u201cplunge fans into a legendary battle that helped shape Middle-earth and set the stage for the epic adventures brought to life in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy.\u201d<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The studio will have competition attracting Tolkien devotees, however, as Amazon also has a \u201cLord of the Rings\u201d prequel in the works. As the Daily Wire previously <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/amazon-justifies-spending-465-million-on-one-season-of-lord-of-the-rings-series\"><span>reported<\/span><\/a><span>, the retail giant is spending a whopping $465 million for the first season of its live action series alone.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to the company\u2019s description, the drama will be set \u201cthousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien\u2019s \u2018The Hobbit\u2019 and \u2018The Lord of the Rings,\u2019 and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien\u2019s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>At a time when other studios have scored huge box office numbers with nostalgic prequels, sequels, and spin-offs of classic franchises like \u201cStar Wars,\u201d Warner Bros. is no doubt hoping to capitalize on the phenomenal success of Jackson\u2019s early-2000s trilogy. Those films rank as the 12th highest-earning U.S. franchise of all time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>They also achieved something few other blockbuster series manage \u2014 critical respect. The finale to Frodo\u2019s journey, \u201cThe Return of the King,\u201d took home all 11 Oscars it was nominated for in 2004, including Best Picture and Best Director, giving it the record for most wins alongside \u201cTitanic\u201d and \u201cBen-Hur.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Time will tell if the latest incarnations can fill those very large (even by Hobbit standards) shoes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><i>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
