Moss is a psychoanalyst teaching at the New York Psychoanalytic Institute, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/06\/10\/psychoanalyst-calls-whiteness-incurable-parasitic-like-condition\/\">The New York Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhiteness is a condition one first acquires and then one has \u2014 a malignant, parasitic-like condition to which \u2018white\u2019 people have a particular susceptibility, the article\u2019s abstract says \u201cThe condition is foundational, generating characteristic ways of being in one\u2019s body, in one\u2019s mind, and in one\u2019s world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParasitic Whiteness renders its hosts\u2019 appetites voracious, insatiable, and perverse. These deformed appetites particularly target nonwhite peoples. Once established, these appetites are nearly impossible to eliminate,\u201d the abstract continues. \u201cEffective treatment consists of a combination of psychic and social-historical interventions. Such interventions can reasonably aim only to reshape Whiteness\u2019s infiltrated appetites \u2014 to reduce their intensity, redistribute their aims, and occasionally turn those aims toward the work of reparation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen remembered and represented, the ravages wreaked by the chronic condition can function either as warning (\u2018never again\u2019) or as temptation (\u2018great again\u2019). Memorialization alone, therefore, is no guarantee against regression. There is not yet a permanent cure,\u201d it concludes.<\/p>\n<p>The article received a wave of criticism and scorn after it began circulating on social media. Clinical psychologist Dr. Philip Pellegrino asked how anyone in the profession could take such an article seriously.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow do my colleagues consider this scholarship? Anyone actuality [sic] take this seriously?\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DrPhilipPellegr\/status\/1402413166567493632\">tweeted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire\u2019s Matt Walsh <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MattWalshBlog\/status\/1402679372503519234\">commented<\/a>: \u201cA peer-reviewed psychoanalytic journal calling whiteness a disease that needs to be cured. The entire \u2018mental health\u2019 industry is irreparably broken. Absolutely infested with this kind of madness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Erielle Davidson, a senior policy analyst for the Jewish Institute for National Security of America, called the article progressive \u201cpseudo-race science.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPseudo-race science is making a comeback under the banner of progressivism,\u201d Davidson <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/politicalelle\/status\/1402992838720192520\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The anonymous political blogger Allahpundit <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/allahpundit\/status\/1402695062954381315\">noted<\/a> the eerie, suggestive language used at the end of the abstract, saying commenting that there is \u201cnot \u2018yet\u2019 a permanent cure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anti-white sentiment has popped up in academic settings multiple times in the past month. Days before the anniversary of George Floyd\u2019s death in May, Kate Slater, an assistant dean of Graduate Student Affairs at Brandeis University, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/all-white-people-are-racist-i-hate-whiteness-university-official-who-is-white-goes-on-anti-racist-tirade\">posted<\/a> to social media that \u201call white people are racist\u201d and that she hates \u201cwhiteness.\u201d She also defended critical race theory, an academic theory that teaches that inequality anywhere is a sign of racism and that the United States is still systemically racist.<\/p>\n<p>She wrote:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"11\">\n<p><em>\u201cDebates\u201d about Critical Race Theory are often straw men about whether or not systemic racism is real, and no number of statistics or facts that I could offer up are going to convince people to \u201csee\u201d systemic racism if they don\u2019t want to. Yes, all White people are racist in that all White people have been conditioned in a society where one\u2019s racial identity determines life experiences\/outcomes and Whiteness is the norm and the default. That includes me!\u00a0I don\u2019t hate white people \u2014 I hate whiteness.
