The claim appears to stem from a Twitter account that has previously impersonated sports reporters.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Tebow on May 20 signed as a tight end with the Jacksonville Jaguars after nearly six years out of the NFL, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/31476623\/source-tim-tebow-signs-one-year-contract-jacksonville-jaguars-tight-end\">ESPN<\/a>. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CPcA3nijs2x\/?utm_source=ig_embed&#038;ig_rid=1a2d90c4-da95-4a06-bd8a-a785ab66d5bc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">May 28 Instagram<\/a> post claims Tebow will be wearing the number 85 to \u201chonor\u201d Hernandez, the late former New England Patriots tight end.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTim Tebow says he is wearing #85 to honor is (<em>sic<\/em>) former friend\/teammate and fellow TE Aaron Hernandez, who passed away in 2017. Respect,\u201d reads text included in the post. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2019\/12\/20\/fact-check-tim-tebow-national-anthem-abortion-colin-kaepernick\/\">(RELATED: Did Tim Tebow Knell During The National Anthem To Protest Against Abortion?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hernandez was convicted of first-degree murder in 2015 and sentenced to life in prison for killing landscaper Odin Lloyd, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/5c5c729811e74304b55c53f9fa329807\">Associated Press<\/a>. He later committed suicide in prison in 2017, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2019\/03\/13\/us\/aaron-hernandez-murder-conviction-reinstated\/index.html\">CNN<\/a> reported. Tebow and Hernandez played football together at the University of Florida and briefly with the Patriots, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/nfl\/patriots\/2013\/07\/26\/tim-tebow-aaron-hernandez-urban-meyer-florida\/2590053\/\">USA Today<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There is no record of Tebow saying he is wearing the number 85 to \u201chonor\u201d Hernandez. Check Your Fact searched his verified\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/profile\/100044403847135\/search\/?q=Hernandez\">social<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=Hernandez%20%20(from%3ATimTebow)&#038;src=typed_query\">media<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/timtebow\/\">accounts<\/a>, but found no evidence of such a statement. Rapoport did not mention anything about Hernandez in his <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RapSheet\/status\/1395362192749432837\">tweet<\/a>, but did note that Tebow\u2019s number may change.<\/p>\n<p>The claim appears to originate from a May 20 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ultraweedhater\/status\/1395460824613916672?lang=en\">tweet<\/a> sent by a Twitter user that goes by the name Barry McCockiner.
