Earlier this year, the Biden DOJ slapped won a judge\u2019s approval for a gag order against The New York Times, preventing the newspaper from publicly revealing its legal battle with the federal government over its reporters\u2019 records. Ryan wrote:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"18.763485477178\">\n<p><em>After Biden took office, the department continued to pursue subpoenas for reporters\u2019 email logs issued to Google, which operates the New York Times\u2019 email systems, and\u00a0it obtained a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/06\/04\/us\/politics\/times-reporter-emails-gag-order-trump-google.html\">gag order<\/a>\u00a0compelling a Times attorney to keep silent about the fact that federal authorities were seeking to seize his colleagues\u2019 records. Later, when the Justice Department broadened the number of those permitted to know about the effort, it barred Times executives from discussing the legal battle with the Times newsroom, including the paper\u2019s top editor.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>This escalation, on Biden\u2019s watch, represents an unprecedented assault on American news organizations and their efforts to inform the public about government wrongdoing.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Ryan also said The Washington Post has yet to hear back from the Biden DOJ on subpoenas submitted under former President Donald Trump for the records of several Post reporters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo date, no answers have been provided and the meeting has yet to take place. This delay is troubling,\u201d Ryan wrote. \u201cWhen asked about how the president\u2019s assurances can be squared with his Justice Department\u2019s behavior, White House press secretary Jen Psaki could offer no explanation. She subsequently released a statement disavowing White House knowledge of the actions that appear to have continued for several months during Biden\u2019s presidency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s apparent war on the press comes after he publicly disavowed Trump for seeking to subpoena reporters\u2019 records, calling it \u201csimply, simply wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ryan continued: \u201cThe inconsistency between presidential words and Justice Department deeds dictates the need for full accountability and transparency regarding the actions taken by the exiting Trump Justice Department and those of the incoming Biden administration. A full accounting should be produced and released for the American public to see.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnything less would be simply, simply wrong,\u201d Ryan said.<\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration probe into The New York Times began on January 5 in the last days of Trump\u2019s presidency, ostensibly to find out who leaked sensitive government information to reporters at the paper. The Trump administration asked a judge to force Google to turn over Times reporters email data.<\/p>\n<p>The Biden administration later sought a gag order in the case, preventing high-level Times employees from learning about the federal government\u2019s request and preventing the Times from sharing the ongoing legal fight with the public. As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-admin-slapped-unprecedented-gag-order-on-media-execs\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"16.898355754858\">\n<p><em>Such requests \u2014 launched to find out which administration officials leaked sensitive national security information to the media \u2014\u00a0amount to about one \u201ccase a year,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/everything-you-missed-from-cable-news-experts-this-weekend\">said<\/a>\u00a0Washington Post national security reporter Devlin Barrett. But the issuance of a gag order has reportedly never taken place before March.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIt\u2019s completely unprecedented for the Justice Department to seek and obtain a gag order in a leak investigation,\u201d\u00a0Theodore J.
