Employees that refused to comply were suspended for two weeks without pay on Monday.<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/01\/covid-19-coronavirus-natural-immunity-vaccine-resarch-nature\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: How Does Natural Immunity Compare To COVID-19 Vaccines?)<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Houston Methodist is the first major healthcare system to force employees to be <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/09\/joe-biden-vaccine-july-4-pandemic-coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vaccinated<\/a>, according to a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/secureservercdn.net\/50.62.198.70\/7e8.6e3.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Methodist-Lawsuit1.pdf\"><span>lawsuit<\/span><\/a><span> filed by over a hundred employees.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"13.438356164384\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\u201cAt the end of the day, we have a sacred obligation as health care employees and physicians\u2026 to keep our patients safe,\u201d says Houston Methodist President and CEO Dr. Marc Boom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe mandated the vaccine. Everyone of you <\/span><span>is replaceable. If you don\u2019t like what your doing you can leave and we will replace <\/span><span>your spot,\u201d Bernard said, according to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/secureservercdn.net\/50.62.198.70\/7e8.6e3.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Methodist-Lawsuit1.pdf\"><span>lawsuit<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cMethodist Hospital is forcing its employees to be human \u2018guinea pigs\u2019 as a condition for continued employment.\u201d the suit states.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Workers can apply for an exemption for pregnancy or religious reasons. 285 employees were exempt for religious and medical reasons, and 332 received a postponement, according to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2021\/06\/08\/houston-hospital-workers-suspended-vaccine\/\"><span>The Washington Post<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, a federal agency that enforces civil rights laws against workplace discrimination, updated a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eeoc.gov\/wysk\/what-you-should-know-about-covid-19-and-ada-rehabilitation-act-and-other-eeo-laws\"><span>report<\/span><\/a><span> that clarifying employers can require a COVID-19 vaccine when reentering a workplace.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cNo one should be forced to put something into their body if they\u2019re not comfortable with it,\u201d Jennifer Bridges, a nurse that worked for Houston Methodist for over 6 years, told The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thetexan.news\/houston-hospital-nurses-stage-walkout-over-vaccine-mandate\/\"><span>Texan<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
