Sources tell Front Office Sports that her departure was related to old Twitter messages and posts that were flagged after ESPN brought her on board. ESPN declined to state the reason she\u2019s no longer at the network,\u201d reported the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>Stewart\u2019s tweets from 2012 used an anti-gay slur and were in response to people criticizing women in sports media.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"6.4484536082474\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">great hire by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/espn?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@espn<\/a> to snag someone who is somehow a worse gambler than they are a person. congrats to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kellyinvegas?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@kellyinvegas<\/a> ! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/h6PoWuAQMj\">pic.twitter.com\/h6PoWuAQMj<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Logan Matthews (@logan_matthews9) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/logan_matthews9\/status\/1390324506162499587?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 6, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Stewart issued a statement on Twitter shortly after news broke of her firing, saying her nine-year-old words were \u201cunacceptable and hurtful,\u201d noting that she was previously punished for her statements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cESPN has notified me that they terminated my contract due to deleted tweets from 2012,\u201d she wrote. \u201cI know the words I used are unacceptable and hurtful and I am terribly sorry for this lapse in judgment, but I cannot apologize for standing up to the vicious attacks I, and so many other female personalities, endure from anonymous online trolls.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wish ESPN had been willing to stand behind me, particularly because I\u2019d already been suspended for these Tweets by another company several years ago, but I cannot control their decision. I can only say I\u2019m sorry for the person I was and some of the mistakes I made in my youth,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Stewart asserted that she is not proud of her past decisions, saying she is \u201ca better person now than I was a decade ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stewart was hired as a betting analyst on ESPN\u2019s Daily Wager podcast last month and was to be included in the network\u2019s betting coverage. \u201cHaving an experienced voice like Kelly Stewart join us better positions us to expand our sports betting content going forward,\u201d Scott Clark, ESPN senior coordinating producer, said in the news release. \u201cShe\u2019ll be an important asset to all that we are doing in the space and like the rest of our sports betting team, she will be busy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased in Las Vegas, Stewart has built up a reputation as one of the sports betting industry\u2019s top handicappers over the last decade.
