Like I did the world a f***ing favor.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"7.1360946745562\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">NYC psychiatrist tells woke Yale University panel she fantasizes about shooting dead white people <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/W0ahaukJG2\">https:\/\/t.co\/W0ahaukJG2<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Daily Mail Online (@MailOnline) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MailOnline\/status\/1401101376718053378?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 5, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Dr. Aruna Khilanani claimed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/06\/06\/nyregion\/yale-psychiatrist-aruna-khilanani.html\">The New York Times<\/a> that her lecture had \u201cused provocation as a tool for real engagement.\u201d She opened her remarks by asserting that she would \u201csay a lot of things, and it will probably provoke a lot of responses, and I want you to just maybe observe themin yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During her talk, titled, \u201cThe Psychopathic Problem of the White Mind,\u201d she made statements like these: \u201cThis is the cost of talking to white people at all \u2014 the cost of your own life, as they suck you dry.\u00a0 \u2026 There are no good apples out there. White people make my blood boil.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After asserting, \u201cI took some actions. I systematically white-ghosted most of my white friends, and I got rid of the couple white BIPOCs that snuck in my crew, too.\u201d \u00a0She added, \u201cI had fantasies of unloading a revolver into the head of any white person that got in my way, burying their body and wiping my bloody hands as I walked away relatively guiltless with a bounce in my step. Like I did the world a f**king favor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Khilianani charged that white people feel bullied when confronted with the issue of race, adding, \u201cThey feel that we should be thanking them for all that they have done for us. They are confused, and so are we. We keep forgetting that directly talking about race is a waste of our breath.\u00a0 \u2026 We are asking a demented, violent predator who thinks that they are a saint or a superhero, to accept responsibility. It ain\u2019t gonna happen. They have five holes in their brain. It\u2019s like banging your head against a brick wall. It\u2019s just like sort of not a good idea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After backlash ensued from her comments, Khilianani refused to apologize, instead telling the Times that her statements had been taken out of context to \u201ccontrol the narrative.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToo much of the discourse on race is a dry, bland regurgitation of new vocabulary words with no work in the unconscious,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd, if you want to hit the unconscious, you will have to feel real negative feelings. My speaking metaphorically about my own anger was a method for people to reflect on negative feelings. To normalize negative feelings. Because if you don\u2019t, it will turn into a violent action.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomething is emotionally dangerous about opening up a conversation about race,\u201d she continued. \u201cNo one wants to look at their actions or face their own negative feelings about what they are doing. The best way to control the narrative is to focus on me, and make me the problem, which is what I stated occurs in the dynamic of racism. \u2026 My work is important. And, I stand by it. We need to heal in this country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Amid outrage over Khilianani\u2019s remarks, Yale University released a <a href=\"https:\/\/medicine.yale.edu\/childstudy\/education\/rounds\/\">statement<\/a> in which they said:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"34\">\n<p><em>On April 6, a speaker who is not affiliated with Yale gave a Child Study Center Grand Rounds talk, with the provocative title \u201cThe Psychopathic Problem of the White Mind.\u201d After the event, several faculty members expressed concern to the Yale School of Medicine\u2019s Office of Academic and Professional Development and the Office of Diversity, Equity &#038; Inclusion about the content of the talk.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Based on these concerns, School of Medicine leaders, including Dean Brown and Deputy Dean Latimore, in consultation with the Chair of the Child Study Center, reviewed a recording of the talk and found the tone and content antithetical to the values of the school. \u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In deciding whether to post the video, we weighed our grave concern about the extreme hostility, imagery of violence, and profanity expressed by the speaker against our commitment to freedom of expression. We ultimately decided to post the video with access limited to those who could have attended the talk\u2014 the members of the Yale community.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>To emphasize that the ideas expressed by the speaker conflict with the core values of Yale School of Medicine, we added the Disclaimer: \u201cThis video contains profanity and imagery of violence. Yale School of Medicine expects the members of our community to speak respectfully to one another and to avoid the use of profanity as a matter of professionalism and acknowledgment of our common humanity. Yale School of Medicine does not condone imagery of violence or racism against any group.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Yale professor Nicholas A. Christakis\u00a0reacted to the report of Khilanani\u2019s statements, writing on Twitter:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"27\">\n<p><em>The racism expressed by Dr. Aruna Khilanani \u2026 is deeply worrisome &#038; counter-productive. Of course, as an invitee, she is free to speak on campus.
