Andrew Cuomo\u2019s book \u201cAmerican Crisis\u201d last month, according to a Monday report from the Wall Street Journal.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors assigned to the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office for the Eastern District of New York subpoenaed emails and pitch materials related to Cuomo\u2019s book as part of their ongoing probe into the Cuomo\u2019s March 2020 <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/05\/15\/new-york-coronavirus-reporting-nursing-home-deaths-undercounting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">executive order<\/a> directing nursing homes to accept patients infected with COVID-19 into their facilities, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/federal-prosecutors-subpoena-material-related-to-andrew-cuomo-s-book-11623106947?mod=e2tw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to the Wall Street Journal.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"9.819018404908\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Federal prosecutors have subpoenaed material related to Gov. Andrew Cuomo\u2019s 2020 memoir and are interested in its coverage of nursing homes as part of a widening probe into Covid-19 deaths in New York nursing homes, people familiar with the matter said <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/m2nTfs0MGs\">https:\/\/t.co\/m2nTfs0MGs<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The Wall Street Journal (@WSJ) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WSJ\/status\/1402039427132764160?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 7, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Cuomo\u2019s administration later pressured New York State Health Department officials to <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/05\/cuomo-aides-altered-nursing-home-data\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">underreport<\/a> the actual number of nursing home residents that died from COVID-19 in a July 2020 report.<\/p>\n<p>Cuomo signed a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/17\/andrew-cuomo-coronavirus-new-york-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">$5.1 million dollar book deal<\/a> with Penguin Random House in October 2020 for the manuscript of his book concept \u201cAmerican Crisis: Lessons From The COVID-19 Pandemic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the book, Cuomo defended his decision to send thousands of \u00a0COVID-19 positive patients into New York\u2019s nursing homes. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/02\/joe-concha-dr-anthony-fauci-profiting-off-pandemic-new-bookexpect-the-unexpected\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: \u2018Bundle This Book With Andrew Cuomo\u2019s\u2019: Joe Concha Says Anthony Fauci Is \u2018Profiting Off The Pandemic\u2019)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Secretary to the Governor Melissa DeRosa allegedly admitted in February that the state deliberately <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/02\/11\/cuomo-administration-hid-nursing-home-deaths-to-keep-feds-in-the-dark-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">withheld data<\/a> on COVID-19 deaths from the public to avoid being investigated by former President Donald Trump\u2019s Department of Justice (DOJ) during a conference call with state Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Weinstein, a former federal prosecutor, claimed the subpoenaed materials could potentially be damning for Cuomo if they contain information inconsistent with public statements made by Cuomo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf reflections memorialized in records and notes are inconsistent with what he was saying publicly or with disclosures to health or government officials, that is potentially problematic,\u201d Weinstein said in a statement to the Wall Street Journal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Governor elected to withhold COVID-19 nursing home mortality information from the Legislature and the public, and by doing so he painted an inaccurate but flattering narrative regarding his pandemic response,\u201d Republican Assemblyman Kevin Byrne, who has introduced legislation with Republican State Sen. George Borrello to ban sitting elected state officials from <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/05\/19\/gov-cuomo-book-deal-leads-gop-to-demand-anti-corruption-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">profiting off of book sales,<\/a> t0ld the Daily Caller.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat he had the gall to use his newfound fame from that false narrative to profit from a $5 million+ self serving book deal during the pandemic is incredibly insulting. We know it\u2019s wrong, and I\u2019m glad federal authorities are looking into it. They can not move fast enough. We need to pass legislation to prevent sitting state officials from profiting off of book sales immediately,\u201d Byrne said.<\/p>\n<p>Federal prosecutors are currently investigating Cuomo for potentially violating the False Claims Act as well as his alleged decision to grant \u00a0his family priority in obtaining COVID-19 tests and his role in drafting a controversial law that gave legal immunity to nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/federal-prosecutors-subpoena-material-related-to-andrew-cuomo-s-book-11623106947\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wall Street Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic New York State Attorney General Leticia James is <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/08\/andrew-cuomo-joon-kim-letitia-james\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">leading<\/a> the investigation into multiple sexual harassment allegations against Cuomo by former staffers, which Cuomo continues to <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/09\/sixth-woman-accuses-cuomo-metoo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">deny<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Federal prosecutors subpoenaed materials related to the production of Democratic New York Gov.
