Ron DeSantis as a 2024 running mate.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview on the Fox Business Network show &#8220;Varney &#038; Co.,&#8221;\u00a0Trump told host Stuart Varney &#8220;there are numerous people that are great&#8221; for the No. 2 spot on the ticket \u2014\u00a0but quickly said &#8220;sure,&#8221; when asked about a possible run with DeSantis.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I would certainly consider Ron,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I was at the beginning of Ron. I\u00a0was the first one to endorse him\u00a0when he came out as a\u00a0congressman that a lot of people\u00a0didn&#8217;t know and my endorsement\u00a0helped him tremendously and I\u00a0know him very well.\u00a0He&#8217;s a great guy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have other great people,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;Look\u00a0at some of the people that\u00a0Republican people that have done\u00a0a great job with states and you\u00a0don&#8217;t see that with the Democrats.\u00a0I mean, they kept their states\u00a0closed and locked down, and the\u00a0schools are closed. It&#8217;s just absolutely outrageous\u00a0how they get away with it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A video of the conversation was posted by <a href=\"http:\/\/https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/trump\/trump-says-hell-consider-dumping-pence-for-desantis-for-potential-2024-run\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mediaite<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Trump pointedly did not mention his former Vice President Mike Pence as returning to the ticket.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/organization\/trafalgar-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trafalgar Group<\/a> poll last month found most Republicans would support DeSantis if Trump doesn\u2019t run.<\/p>\n<p>Varney then prodded Trump on whether he\u2019s considering a run for the House or Senate in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Well so many people are saying that I should run in 2022 and I think that&#8217;s highly unlikely, but they do say that a lot,&#8221; Trump replied. &#8220;You&#8217;ve heard that. I should run in 2022. It&#8217;s pretty amazing. You know there&#8217;s a whole theory behind that. We won&#8217;t get into that now.&#8221; Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon first pushed the idea in February of Trump running for Congress to take over as Speaker of the House, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonherald.com\/2021\/02\/14\/steve-bannon-speaks-to-boston-republicans-trump-will-lead-us-in-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boston Herald<\/a> reported at the time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Radio host Wayne Allen Root ran it by Trump again on Friday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/trump-suggests-he-may-run-house-2022-become-speaker-very-interesting-1597823\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Newsweek<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Why not, instead of waiting for 2024, and I&#8217;m hoping you&#8217;ll run in 2024 but why not run in 2022 for the United States Congress? A House seat in Florida. Win big. Lead us to a dramatic landslide victory. Take the House by 50 seats. And then you become the Speaker of the House, lead the impeachment of [President Joe] Biden and start criminal investigations against Biden. You&#8217;ll wipe him out for this last two years,&#8221; Root suggested, Newsweek reported.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s so \u2014 that&#8217;s so interesting,&#8221; Trump responded.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Do it! You&#8217;ll be a folk hero!&#8221; Root urged.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Yeah, you know it&#8217;s very interesting,&#8221; Trump added, noting it had also been suggested he run for the Senate as well. &#8220;But you know what, your idea might be better.
