A lot more jobs are going to be created in other industries,\u201d Biden said at the time. \u201cEventually we\u2019re going to have to go to all \u2014 we\u2019re not going to be able to get rid of fossil fuels, getting rid of the subsidies for fossil fuels. But we\u2019re not going to get rid of fossil fuels for a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s deputy campaign manager and communications director Kate Bedingfield attempted to \u201cclarify\u201d what Biden said at the debate to Washington Post reporter Annie Linskey. Linkskey reported that Bedingfield said Biden was simply referring to oil subsidies.<\/p>\n<p>Politico <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/10\/23\/biden-oil-pennsylvania-texas-432043\">reported<\/a> Friday evening, however, that the damage control didn\u2019t stop there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn Friday, his running mate Kamala Harris reaffirmed the ticket\u2019s support for fracking. And two members of Congress from oil- and gas-rich areas immediately distanced themselves from the Democratic nominee,\u201d the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p>While President Donald Trump used Biden\u2019s remarks to shore up votes in Pennsylvania, Democrats in the state tried to shrug off the problem.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s going to be an issue,\u201d said Lt. Gov. John Fetterman (D-PA). \u201cI think if you are fundamentally committed to or work in that industry, you\u2019ve already made up your mind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Politico explained that the Trump campaign has used Biden\u2019s comments as \u201can opportunity to pick up more votes in his strongholds in the western and northeastern parts of the state where there are numerous gas wells.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn hopes of limiting his losses in those areas, or even flipping some, Biden has typically sought to be extra careful while talking about fracking and energy,\u201d the outlet continued.<\/p>\n<p>At the debate, Trump slammed Biden\u2019s past remarks about fracking, while Biden claimed he has \u201cnever said I oppose fracking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When Trump says he has it \u201con tape,\u201d Biden told him to prove it, so Trump tweeted out a compilation of Biden saying he would end fossil fuels and ban new fracking. We would make sure it\u2019s eliminated and no more subsidies for either one of those.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>BIDEN TALKING TO YOUNG PERSON: I guarantee you, we\u2019re going to end fossil fuel.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>BIDEN AT MSNBC DEMOCRATIC DEBATE: No more, no new fracking.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>BIDEN DURING CNBC INTERVIEW: I\u2019d gradually move away from fracking.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>KAMALA HARRIS, DEMOCRATIC VICE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE, AT CNN TOWN HALL: And I think it\u2019s critically important on day one that we end any fossil fuel leases on public lands.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>VOTER: But, like, what about, say, stopping fracking and stopping \u2026 pipeline and structure\u2026<\/p>\n<p>BIDEN TALKING TO VOTER: Yes. Yes.
