At the Thursday meeting, the board initially voted 4 to 3 in rejection of any rule changes, but board chairman David Thomas pointed out that leaving the old rules intact would keep face masks and social distancing requirements for all employees intact, despite the state\u2019s attempt at reopening. The board subsequently voted to change the rules so that all employees in a given room must be vaccinated if they\u2019re to take off their masks, according to The AP.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"20.157190635452\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">12 states have met the Biden administration\u2019s goal to vaccinate 70% of adults against Covid-19, CDC data shows:<br \/>California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ana Cabrera (@AnaCabrera) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AnaCabrera\/status\/1400058567948963841?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 2, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Regulations created by Cal\/OSHA are applicable in nearly every workplace across California, whether it\u2019s in retail, manufacturing, or other office places, The AP reported. The measures reportedly apply to all employees who work with other people in a workplace but not those who work remotely. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/03\/california-religious-liberty-south-bay-pentecostal-trevor-burfitt-newsom-covid-19-pandemic-lockdowns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Churches Shake Down California For $2 Million Over COVID-19 Shutdowns)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The new rules will come into effect on June 15, the same day Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom planned to move <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/06\/gavin-newsom-california-covid-19-coronavirus-reopening-mask-mandate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reopening<\/a> forward, pending an ample supply of vaccine doses and low hospitalizations. Newsom faces a <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/18\/california-recall-backers-2-million-signatures-deadline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">recall<\/a> election later this year \u2014 at least in part \u2014 because of his strict lockdowns. However, Newsom has also alleged that <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/17\/california-gavin-newsom-recall-newsom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">racism<\/a> is fueling the effort to recall him.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas defended the board\u2019s decision to update the rules. \u201cIt\u2019s better than the previous one, because that\u2019s what we\u2019re going back to\u201d had the board not changed the rules, Thomas told The AP. \u201cWe don\u2019t want to leave the last one in place when this is better than that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, critics argued that the board could have taken further steps to open up the economy by letting employees take off their masks.<\/p>\n<p>Board member Kate Crawford initially voted no on revising the rules. She claimed the changes should follow updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which states that fully vaccinated individuals do not have to wear masks or socially distance in most circumstances, The AP reported.<\/p>\n<p>Board member Nola Kennedy, who also voted no, said, \u201cWe have to create reasonable and enforceable standards,\u201d according to The AP. \u201cI just don\u2019t think this proposal is there yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"9.796875\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">CA has the second highest unemployment rate in the country \u2014 with only 48% of jobs lost during the pandemic regained. As our small businesses and workers recover from COVID-19 shutdowns, we must work on pro-growth policies that help get CA back to work. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/3X5FTYTTdG\">https:\/\/t.co\/3X5FTYTTdG<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Young Kim (@YoungKimCA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/YoungKimCA\/status\/1398308087098904577?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 28, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Others took issue with what they felt were impractical and expensive provisions in the guidance, such as a mandate that employers must stockpile N-95 masks for workers who want them starting July 1.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLogistically I\u2019m just unclear how a business determines how many, how much,\u201d said Chris Laszcz-Davis, a management representative on the board who voted to reject the revised regulations. \u201cI\u2019m not sure how much we\u2019re buying by recommending N95s.
