As reported by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/college-football\/story\/_\/id\/31560592\/johnny-manziel-says-made-decent-living-selling-autographs-texas-never-took-dollar-winning-heisman-trophy\"><span>ESPN<\/span><\/a><span>, the investigation revolved around a handful of autograph dealers who claimed that Manziel had signed over 4,000 items in exchange for payments at an event in Connecticut in January of 2013.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Texas A&#038;M and the NCAA announced that Manziel was in violation of an NCAA rule which prohibited student-athletes from allowing their names or likeness to \u201cbe used for commercial purposes.\u201d Manziel\u2019s punishment \u2014 a suspension for the first half of Texas A&#038;M\u2019s 2013 season opener \u2014 was widely mocked for being too lenient.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Manziel denied making any money off of his signatures at the time, but his interview with Barstool Sports solidifies what many already suspected.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI got to make somewhat of a decent living in college,\u201d he <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/us\/ncaa-football\/news\/johnny-manziel-accept-33k-signing-autographs-texas-am\/183k4no0r4vgh14zhrt7ksnwi4\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Manziel claims he accepted two different deals to sign thousands of autographs, and was paid for both instances.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThis guy comes up behind me and was like, \u2018Yo, how would you want to make three grand?\u2019 I turn around, I\u2019m like, \u2018F***\u00a0 yeah, bro\u2019. I got like 65 bucks in my bank account. I\u2019m waiting on that beginning of the month January stipend check,\u201d Manziel <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/us\/ncaa-football\/news\/johnny-manziel-accept-33k-signing-autographs-texas-am\/183k4no0r4vgh14zhrt7ksnwi4\"><span>told<\/span><\/a><span> Barstool. \u201cSo I take this guy\u2019s number down, we\u2019re doing it all sneaky, we don\u2019t want to get caught. We\u2019re trying to learn from everybody else that\u2019s got caught. May or may not have gone back to this condo and signed probably 10,000 pieces.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Manziel also said that it was at the man\u2019s condo that he was approached by a second man \u2014 who told him he was being ripped off \u2014 and offered him the number for another individual who would pay him $30,000 for his signatures.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI\u2019m signing these autographs, and this other guy who\u2019s bringing the pictures over he\u2019s like \u2018Yo, you\u2019re getting f****** ripped off. Here\u2019s this guy\u2019s number. Hit him up, he\u2019ll give you $30,000.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cSo this guy is like, \u2018All right, go to this room at the Fontainebleau. All this stuff will be in there laid out, and when you\u2019re done, just send me a picture of all of it, I\u2019ll give you the code to the safe, the money will be in there,&#8217;\u201d Manziel <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/college-football\/story\/_\/id\/31560592\/johnny-manziel-says-made-decent-living-selling-autographs-texas-never-took-dollar-winning-heisman-trophy\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Manziel became the first freshman to win the Heisman trophy in 2012,\u00a0 accumulating an SEC record 4,600 yards of total offense. He threw for 3,419 yards and 24 touchdowns while running for 1,181 yards and 19 touchdowns in his redshirt freshman season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI got to make somewhat of a decent money in college,\u201d Manziel continued. \u201cWe went 9-4 the next year, so if the NCAA wants to take my f****** 9-4 season away and my Chick-fil-A bowl against Duke, f****** b*** me\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i>Joe Morgan is the Sports Reporter for The Daily Wire.
