(AP Photo\/Susan Walsh)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h5>OAN Newsroom<br \/>UPDATED 8:20 AM PT \u2013 Friday, June 4, 2021<\/h5>\n<p>Kamala Harris has given details on her upcoming trip to Central America.<\/p>\n<p>As detention facilities overflow and illegal immigrants cross the border at record numbers, Harris prepares for a tax-payer funded trip to Mexico City and Guatemala. Joe Biden\u2019s so-called border czar elaborated on these efforts while speaking to reporters on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the first trip and I\u2019ll be meeting at the front leg of the trip with the President of Guatemala Giammettei,\u201d she mentioned. \u201cWe have a lot to discuss.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her trip comes after state officials along the border have issued disaster declarations for certain regions and proposed state-funded efforts to increase border security. As they continue to weather the constant influx of illegal immigrants, Biden\u2019s border czar seems to have different priorities to discuss with her foreign counterparts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we need to do and can do together to both support the folks who need help in terms of hunger, the economic development, peace, the extreme weather and the impact that has had on their economy,\u201d she explained. \u201cIt\u2019s also about having a very frank and honest conversation about the need to address corruption, to address crime, violence, and in particular against some of the most vulnerable populations in that country. \u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Today we launched a Call to Action to the private sector to deepen investments in Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, to address the root causes of migration.
