News, \u201cThe pre-workout Ms Portillo consumed has more caffeine in one scoop than eight cups of coffee.\u201d As <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.insider.com\/woman-had-heart-attack-after-eating-dry-powder-preworkout-supplement-2021-6\"><span>Business Insider<\/span><\/a><span> noted, \u201c<\/span><span>Pre-workouts<\/span><span> are a type of supplement that blends performance enhancing compounds such as B-vitamins, creatine, and beta alanine, often with large doses of caffeine,\u201d and that \u201cMost are intended to be mixed with water before consuming, which helps dilute the ingredients.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.com\/fitness\/is-dry-scooping-pre-workout-bad-for-you\"><span>Health<\/span><\/a><span>, another person who attempted this challenge \u201c<\/span><span>couldn\u2019t breathe and needed her inhaler.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Dr. Kathryn Boling, a primary care physician at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, said that \u201cdry scooping\u201d can cause choking, dehydration, and even lead to pneumonia if some of the powder is accidentally breathed into the lungs. However, the \u201cbiggest potential issue is the big hit of concentrated caffeine you can get from dry scooping pre-workout,\u201d with the caffeine surge running the risk of exacerbating underling heart issues.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThose who may be at higher risk for issues with these substances, like people with heart conditions, high blood pressure, and arrhythmias, should absolutely check in with their doctor before using them,\u201d said Nicole Harkin, a San Francisco cardiologist, according to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.buzzfeed.com\/daniellaemanuel\/dry-scooping-pre-workout-heart-attack\"><span>BuzzFeed<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cThat said, everyone should make sure their doctor is aware of all substances they are consuming, including regular over-the-counter medications or supplements.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Describing her experience from her hospital bed, Portillo\u2019s TikTok <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@brivtny\/video\/6951337919743364357?is_copy_url=1&#038;is_from_webapp=v1\"><span>video<\/span><\/a><span> received over 2.3 million views.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
