Version: 4.0.47--><div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/GettyImages-1090595976-1200x800-1.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"  style=\"display:none\"><\/div>\n<p><span>Several of the \u201cspecial guests\u201d who appeared in the recent \u201cFriends\u201d reunion on May 27 were reportedly scrubbed from the Chinese version in the communist regime\u2019s latest exhibition of ideological censorship.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Pop stars Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and the K-pop group BTS were removed from different versions of the reunion episode when they were streamed on various Chinese platforms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201c<\/span><span>Each missing cameo involved a star or group that had been a past target of Beijing\u2019s ire, and fans suspected the show was stuck in censorship gear,\u201d reported <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/05\/28\/business\/friends-reunion-china.html\"><span>The New York Times<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Pop icon Lady Gaga was likely erased from the episode \u2014 in which she joined Phoebe to sing \u201cSmelly Cat\u201d \u2014 after sparking anger in Beijing after meeting with the Dalai Lama in 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cChinese fans have reacted with outrage to Lady Gaga\u2019s meeting with the Dalai Lama over the weekend,\u201d reported the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-asia-china-36641851\"><span>BBC<\/span><\/a><span>, adding, \u201cHer social media posts about meeting with the Tibetan spiritual leader on Sunday have led to online speculation over whether she will still be allowed to perform in the country.\u201d The BBC also reported that some users of the Chinese social media platform, Weibo, had their posts censored for sharing pictures of Lady Gaga\u2019s Instagram post.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Justin Bieber is banned from performing in China, with the regime\u2019s \u201cCulture Bureau\u201d citing \u201cbad behavior.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cJustin Bieber is a gifted singer, but he is also a controversial young foreign singer,\u201d the Bureau announced in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/entertainment-arts-40681026\"><span>statement<\/span><\/a><span> in 2017. \u201cWe hope that as Justin Bieber matures, he can continue to improve his own words and actions, and truly become a singer beloved by the public.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In 2014, Bieber \u201ccaused upset on social media after he posted a photo of himself visiting the controversial Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo,\u201d which \u201cpays tribute to convicted war criminals but in China and South Korea.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The K-pop group BTS faced a \u201cbacklash in China over comments a member made about the Korean War\u201d in October 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIn a speech, the band\u2019s leader, known as RM, mentioned South Korea\u2019s shared \u2018history of pain\u2019 with the US over the 1950-53 conflict, in which the two countries fought together,\u201d reported the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-asia-54513408\"><span>BBC<\/span><\/a><span>. With China backing North Korea during the conflict, this reportedly angered the communist regime.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cChinese netizens said the band\u2019s totally one-sided attitude to the Korean War hurts their feelings and negates history,\u201d reported Chinese state-run media.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This certainly isn\u2019t the first example of the censorship of content in China which offends the radical government.
