The tax raise has been a non-starter for Republicans and Biden changing this plan would be a forfeit for the Democratic president, as he\u2019s previously held a <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/05\/biden-corporate-tax-rate-manchin\/\">hard line<\/a> on this portion of the proposal.<\/p>\n<p>Biden, during a Wednesday meeting with Republican West Virginia Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, apparently suggested he\u2019d be open to taking off the increase, The Washington Post <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/cQPHi#selection-497.0-548.0\">reported<\/a>, citing a person familiar with the talks. Biden \u201cstill intends to seek the tax increase.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although, she said it may be \u201coutside of the infrastructure debate,\u201d according to the report.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/biden-offers-drop-corporate-tax-hike-proposal-source-2021-06-03\/\">Reuters<\/a>, citing sources, wrote that Biden offered to drop the corporate tax rates and set a minimum of 15% instead to make sure every company paid taxes. The caveat, however, apparently requires Republicans to compromise with at least a $1 trillion infrastructure spending plan, Reuters added.<\/p>\n<p>The president is still pushing for up for a $1.7 trillion proposal. If agreed upon, the tax <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/25\/business-groups-coalition-joe-biden-democrats-tax-hikes\/\">change<\/a> would in part mean that the administration would look to more tax enforcement for funding, Reuters reported. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/12\/joe-biden-spending-inflation-hidden-tax-everything-purchase-coronavirus\/\">(RELATED:\u00a0Here\u2019s How Biden\u2019s Spending Could Become A Hidden Tax On Everything You Purchase)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>White House press secretary Jen Psaki said the president\u2019s idea \u201cshould be completely acceptable\u201d for Republicans wanting the 2017 corporate tax cuts left alone. One thing the administration won\u2019t agree to, according to Psaki, is increasing taxes on those making less than $<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/02\/biden-tax-increase-infrastructure-plan\/\">400,000<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__text___3eVx1j Text__dark-grey___AS2I_p Text__regular___Bh17t- Text__large___1i0u1F Body__base___25kqPt Body__large_body___3g04wK ArticleBody__element___3UrnEs\" data-testid=\"paragraph-5\">\u201cWe\u2019re open to other options,\u201d Psaki said.<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"paragraph-5\">Earlier Thursday, Psaki told reporters that Biden has \u201cabsolutely not\u201d abandoned the plan to raise the corporate tax rate to 28%, adding that he believes \u201cthat corporations can afford to pay a little more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"paragraph-5\">When pressed on whether the president\u2019s position is \u201cthat he would be willing to do away with this increase in the corporate tax rate if Republicans agreed to a minimum 15% corporate tax rate,\u201d Psaki said to \u201ctake a step back.\u201d She continued on to say Biden \u201cbelieves that we should continue to look at raising the corporate rate\u201d and that \u201che\u2019s got a lot of ideas out there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"paragraph-5\">\u201cThe book minimum was in the president\u2019s American Jobs Plan proposal as a proposed pay for,\u201d Psaki said. \u201cIt was also in our budget. So, this is not a new idea. This is a component of what he has proposed for a pay-for that he is lifting up as a question as to whether they could agree to that.
