Hunter Biden sat on Burisma\u2019s board at the time. Since Blue Star did not file paperwork with the State Department declaring that it was lobbying for Burisma, it could have violated the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), Politico <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/06\/03\/blue-star-burisma-justice-department-investigation-491681\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a> Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>FARA was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lawfareblog.com\/justice-departments-new-unprecedented-use-foreign-agents-registration-act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">passed<\/a> in 1938 due to concerns of Nazi activities in the U.S. and \u201crequires certain agents of foreign principals who are engaged in political activities \u2026 to make periodic public disclosure of their relationship with the foreign principal, as well as activities, receipts and disbursements in support of those activities,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/nsd-fara\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to the Justice Department.<\/p>\n<p>FARA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/nsd-fara\/fara-index-and-act#612a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">defines<\/a> political activities as \u201cany activity that the person engaging in believes will \u2026 or \u2026 intends to \u2026 influence any agency or official of the Government of the United States or any section of the public within the United States with reference to formulating, adopting, or changing the domestic or foreign policies of the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"9.2222222222222\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">SCOOP: The Justice Department is investigating the work of the consulting firm Blue Star Strategies linked to Hunter Biden for potential illegal lobbying for Burisma, four people familiar with the probe told <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/woodruffbets?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@woodruffbets<\/a> and me. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/RDHxh3JDX6\">https:\/\/t.co\/RDHxh3JDX6<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Daniel Lippman (@dlippman) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/dlippman\/status\/1400409418542505991?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 3, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Delaware U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office is reportedly involved in the investigation but Biden is not a target of the Blue Star FARA probe, according to Politico. Biden\u2019s foreign business deals, particularly with a Chinese energy company, are being <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/12\/11\/hunter-biden-investigation-china-cefc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">investigated<\/a> by the Delaware U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office for potential tax law violations.<\/p>\n<p>Burisma first hired Blue Star Strategies to improve its reputation after then-U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/12\/09\/world\/europe\/corruption-ukraine-joe-biden-son-hunter-biden-ties.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">slammed<\/a> the company\u2019s owner, Mykola Zlochevsky, as corrupt in a 2015 New York Times article. Karen Tramontano, Blue Star co-founder and CEO, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hsgac.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/2020-08-28-Tramontano%20Interview%20with%20Exhibits.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">testified<\/a> to Congress in August 2020 that Burisma wanted Blue Star to \u201c<span dir=\"ltr\">find out whether\u2026 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">Ambassador Pyatt\u2019s position reflected the Department of <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">State\u2019s position\u201d as to whether or not Burisma was corrupt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Blue Star Strategies <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2019\/11\/05\/hunter-biden-burisma-state-department\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">used<\/a> Biden\u2019s name in multiple emails to secure meetings with State Department officials, and Biden himself <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/02\/18\/burisma-hunter-biden-state-department\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">met<\/a> with then-Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken in 2015. The subject of that meeting is unclear. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/03\/08\/hunter-biden-blue-star-lobbying-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>(RELATED: Firm Linked To Hunter Biden And Burisma Lobbied For Ukrainian Group Accused Of Smearing Anti-Corruption Organization)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In addition, Blue Star \u201c<span dir=\"ltr\">deliver[ed] letters to Members of <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">Congress\u2026 who had oversight <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">or interest in the area of concern for the national interest <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">of Ukraine Group,\u201d Tramontano testified.
