Thomas Massie, R-Ky., said on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsmaxtv.com\/\">Newsmax<\/a> Thursday that the House\u2019s rules about mask wearing while on the floor are &#8220;about theater,&#8221; rather than health after he and several other Republicans were fined for breaking them.<\/p>\n<p>The congressman was fined $500 two weeks ago for refusing to wear a mask while in the House of Representatives chamber, as were several other GOP representatives in refusing to wear masks despite measures put in place during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Massie said on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsmaxtv.com\/Shows\/National-Report\">&#8220;National Report&#8221;<\/a> that &#8220;we&#8217;re\u00a0fighting this fight on the\u00a0House floor because [House Speaker] Nancy\u00a0Pelosi, [D-Calif.,] is setting a predicate\u00a0for all the private employers\u00a0across the United States. Whatever they can get away with\u00a0on the House floor, they will\u00a0do to the common people. And\u00a0it&#8217;s all about theater, because\u00a0the fine that she imposed on me\u00a0and nine other members of\u00a0Congress who had a small revolt\u00a0last week and went on the floor\u00a0without our masks, the fine only\u00a0applies if you&#8217;re in front of a\u00a0TV camera, i.e., if you&#8217;re in\u00a0the hearing room or on the\u00a0floor of the House, you can be\u00a0fined $500 for the first\u00a0infraction, then $2,500 after\u00a0that, and they take it directly\u00a0out of your paycheck.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He added, &#8220;But as\u00a0soon as you walk off the floor\u00a0you can take off your mask, and\u00a0most Democrats take off their\u00a0masks as soon as they get off\u00a0the floor. That&#8217;s how\u00a0you know it&#8217;s about theater.\u00a0And so we just said, &#8216;you know\u00a0what? We&#8217;re going to stand up\u00a0to Pelosi.&#8217; Not because we&#8217;re\u00a0inconvenienced by mask, but\u00a0because millions of people \u2026\u00a0they&#8217;re actually going to try\u00a0and get vaccine passports, that&#8217;s our concern. Because\u00a0Nancy Pelosi&#8217;s position is until 100% of Congress is\u00a0vaccinated, everybody has to\u00a0wear a mask.
