But the source said Fauci is not being muzzled.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jim Acosta (@Acosta) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Acosta\/status\/1233532890736140290?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 28, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Fauci himself even hinted at the idea that he was being hamstrung by the Trump White House during a January 2021 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/01\/24\/health\/fauci-trump-covid.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">interview<\/a> with The New York Times\u2019 Donald G. McNeil Jr.<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"11\">\n<p>The people around him, his inner circle, were quite upset that I would dare publicly contradict the president. That\u2019s when we started getting into things I felt were unfortunate and somewhat nefarious \u2014 namely, allowing Peter Navarro to write an editorial in USA Today saying I\u2019m wrong on most of the things I say. Or to have the White House press office send out a detailed list of things I said that turned out to be not true \u2014 all of which were nonsense because they were all true. I have never been muzzled, ever, and I have been doing this since the administration of Ronald Reagan. I am not being muzzled by this administration. We were set up to go on some shows, and when the vice president took over, we said, \u2018Let\u2019s regroup and figure out how we\u2019re going to be communicating.\u2019 So I had to just stand down on a couple of shows and resubmit for clearance. And when I resubmitted for clearance, I got cleared, so I have not been muzzled at all.
